This is a common misconception. I agree that detecting viral particles in the brain does not mean acute infection. However, what #SARSCoV2 does is not only infect the brain, but it actually replicates inside the neurons. Few viruses replicate inside neurons; they usually infect and propagate in other cell types.
Check the photos below. In the first photo, taken in the Olfactory Cortex, you can identify 4 neurons (N1, N2, N3, N4). What you see inside these neurons is double-stranded RNA. This is the site of active replication for the virus. It is not spike protein or something else that can come in a vaccine. It is active viral production.
When you separate the channels, you can observe the amount of viral protein is inversely proportional to the amount of neuronal protein. These neurons are actively dying while their systems are hijacked to produce more viral protein.
You can see how much neuronal protein is destroyed by the presence of the virus inside the cell.
Except Neuron 4 (N4), I think this one is already dead (almost no virus, almost no neuronal protein)
