Talking to people about Covid.
1/ I suggest you select those who might be receptive – there is no point in risking abuse. Make sure your information is up to date and choose what they might manage to understand.
2/ They may absorb some info, and give no indication at the time, but I found out later, I had been a major influence in changing council policy to clean air and also two people deciding to shield.
3/ You will never know the full outcome, because it may go further than the person you are talking to. With positive outcomes, people who succeed in avoiding illness or death because of your conversation will be unknown because it is only the failures that register.
4/ If you feel odd, upset or angry after talking to someone remember your subconscious is in tune with theirs and you will be experiencing not only your feelings but also theirs.
Identifying and stating to yourself their feelings will often cause them to disappear.
5/ Be prepared to feel more anxious – this will be gaslighting or projection of their anxiety onto you, plus your anxiety about their possible reaction.
6/ News about those who subsequently become infected and have negative outcomes, inc medical illness and long Covid, can induce many feelings. These may include anxiety, anger, and guilt, but it will often end with sorrow. You may go backwards and forwards through these feelings.
7/ You are not responsible for their original decisions or the ones they made after listening to you. If you start to feel overwhelmed then stop talking to people for awhile.
8/ “No Man is an Island.”
All we can do is our best.

@brownecfm 1/4 Thomas Kuhn evolved the idea of the scientific paradigm where the majority of scientists agree about an area of research. GBD provides an example of an alternative or parallel paradigm. Alternative paradigms often coexist in new areas of research.
@brownecfm 2/4 beliefs of individual people are stored as emotionally charged, complexes, and depend on an individual’s family, knowledge and social groups. These groups overlap, like overlapping Venn circles.
@brownecfm 3/4 Politicians may bridge the personal and the scientific paradigms, but they often have no science education. At this point, they will require input from scientific advisers, and if they have no knowledge base, it will be difficult. They then decide a course of action.
