After last night, I feel even more determined to work to get @joebiden re-elected in November. At one point after there were some protestors in the audience shouting at the three Presidents on stage, President @barackobama made this point: 1/
What’s special about living in a democracy is that we don’t just yell at each other. We also
listen to each other and talk to each other. That resonated with me. We have the freedom to protest and the freedom of speech. 2/
I’m thankful I still live in a country with those rights. We should never all agree. Robust debate & discussion are key if we want to evolve & grow as people and a nation. However, if we just yell at each other without listening or call each other names then we will not…3/
progress. The Republican Party as it exists now has no substantial platform or plan for the American people. It’s now been fully hijacked by Trump. The Democrats under Biden are working to keep supporting & protecting the 4/
American people. Is any person or party flawless? No. Will you agree with every policy and action of a President or legislator? Not usually. But right now we live with a two-party system. It is not being changed in the next 8 months 5/
There’s one party that’s become a shell corporation protecting a criminal conman who couldn’t care less about our country and our multiracial democracy. Then there’s the President Biden who has worked tirelessly serving his nation as a Senator, VP & President. 6/
Biden doesn’t just talk. He listens. We all need to do more of that. But only with people who are truly engaging in discourse with the goal of not just arguing for argument’s sake but with a shared goal of problem solving and finding solutions. 7/
And, yes, our nation has been moved time & time again through agitation & protest. We only move forward through constant evaluation and introspection. But we also must balance out our idealism with pragmatism. Listening to the three Presidents last 8/
night reminded me why our nation thrives when we have thoughtful & intelligent people in the White House. People who constantly read about and think about the United States: our history & have true appreciation for what makes us an 9/
incredible nation while also being thoughtful & honest about the flaws that existed in our past that continue to hold us back. As President Biden often says, “Our diversity is our strength” and that’s what shapes his actions & agenda as President. 10/

So it looks like some members of traditional media were not happy that content creators were invited to the DNC and given space. I did not anticipate this response to 200 of us hardworking content creators. But here we are and I feel the need to say a few words on this. I’ll be working on a video once I get my voice back. The overall way that we’ve been portrayed & seen by those who don’t consume our content is that we are mostly vapid TikTok dancers only there for the clout and the selfies. 1/
The content creators at the DNC are hardworking professionals who were hustling hard to get interviews and capture the DNC for their followers. I know I was! When there was an opportunity to interview a delegate or an elected or a surrogate I jumped at the chance & immediately got filming. I wasn’t there to take only take selfies & look cute. We certainly were mostly standing and hungry most of the time. But gladly because it was an honor to have a seat at the table 2/
Our goal isn’t to take over but just be there too. We have audiences who view our content alongside traditional media. But we bring new perspectives and often respond to what our audiences and communities want to learn that’s often missing from MSM. For example, so many of my students and followers were asking me about Project 2025 in the spring, so I educated myself about it and made informational videos. A lot of us did long before the traditional media covered it. 3/

The Smoot-Hawley Act of 1930 increased tariffs on foreign imports to the U.S. by about 20%; at least 25 countries responded by increasing their own tariffs on U.S. goods. The tariff made it difficult for US businesses to sell their products abroad, causing exports to drop 1/
from $7 billion in 1929 to $2.5 billion in 1932. Farm exports were down by a third by 1933. Other countries responded to the tariff with retaliatory tariffs on US goods, which further decreased trade and made the Great Depression worse.  2/
The decrease in exports contributed to bank failures, especially in the agriculture sector.

Donald Trump plans to impose a flat 10 percent to 20 percent tariff on countries he says "have been ripping us off" while likely trigger retaliatory tariffs, according to economists 3/

Back in June, those of us who are chronically online & tuned into pop culture declared it Brat Girl Summer after Charli XCX dropped her new album, Brat. If you’ve been paying attention to the vibes lately, it made perfect sense. 1/
Last summer was all about Barbie. All the girlies put on their pink fits and flooded the movie theaters. (Yes, not everyone. I’m talking about overall trends here.) It was also the summer of disco silver fits at Beyonce shows and sequins & friendship bracelets at 2/
Taylor Swift shows. But all the while, I kept hearing rumblings of the return of the earlier 2000s style staging a comeback. A less polished messier but still glam af look reflecting a mashup of the multitude of emotions of the confusing nature of being a “girl” 3/

So this morning one of the co-founders of Moms For Liberty said it was nonsense that I called them an extremist group. I figured I'd show my evidence. 1/
In Florida's Hernando County, Moms for Liberty's censorship actions provoke liberal backlash. Their extreme behavior fuels educational chaos and teacher resignations. #MomsForLiberty 2/washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/…

Based on all the recent online & offline conversations I’ve been seeing about world events, it’s safe to say that we need to be investing more resources into social studies & media literacy education. This includes investing in the education of social studies teachers and 1/
an end to the educational gag orders & book bans. The K-12 classroom needs to be a place where young people learn how to source documents, learn historical context, and engage in complexity & critical thinking. 2/
A little context: In response to No Child Left Behind, more than a third of schools decreased Social Studies class time nationwide. It’s probably more now? I think we are starting to see the impact of this decision. With all these educational gag orders & book bans, 3/

The day he came down that escalator to Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World” was the beginning of one of the darkest chapters in American history. Those of us who had been fighting to get closer to becoming a multiracial democracy with liberty and justice for ALL knew it 1/
right away. Yes, our country has been flawed since its inception. White supremacy has been the backbone of the USA from the start with settler colonialism & the genocide of the indigenous people & then our entire economy was based on race based chattel slavery. 2/
So, yes, the story of our nation, like any nation, is not perfect (even though Republicans are trying to brainwash kids by banning the teaching of this complex history now!) I get lots of comments from MAGA trolls that I’m “obsessed with Trump” but they don’t get it. 3/
