Conclusion: These are the top 100 state owned & controlled companies that were in operation in 1986. 3 key conclusions:

1. State led economic & industrial development. The state produced essential ingredients to infrastructure. Key ingredients through research.
2. 2. State, through state-owned companies, employed more than 612 671 people with pension benefits on a full-time basis. Post Office, SASOL, Harbours, Roads and ISCOR are the main players, all funded by the state.
3. Lastly, this is in addition to state department workers, hospitals, local government, police and the army.

With a dedicated focus, to create 10 million jobs is doable. Today, we have bigger population, high levels of backlog & more in need of government services.
