This is Clemette Haskins. We grew up together. My dad and her dad played at Western Kentucky University together (and went to the Final Four). Our parents are best friends. Wayne and Laura — and Clem and Yvette.
Clemette was “Ms. Basketball” in Kentucky in 1983. I was “Mr. Basketball” in 1986. She was three grades ahead of me but just two years older.
SHE KICKED MY FKNG ASS IN BASKETBALL our entire childhood and it wasn’t until I was about 16 years old before I could beat Clemette 1-on-1.
She attended Western and was a 3 time NCAA All-American (1984, 86, and 87). She took WKU to the Final Four.
We’re both in the Kentucky HS Basketball Hall of Fame.
We ended up dating a little bit when we got older but it was always weird because we were really just best buddies. We attended the Kentucky State Tournament together every single year together as kids. Our parents would take us out of school for the week and Clemette and I would run around Rupp Arena, watching games, eating ice cream, and just being kids. We were OBSESSED with hoops.
But I always felt bad for Clemette because there was no way for her to play basketball here in the states following college. She was like Nancy Lieberman, Cheryl Miller, Doris Burke, etc. — GREAT women’s players with no professional league! It’s always been bullshit.
But now the women are getting their due. And as a dad of three girls - I’m beyond here for it.
Women of that generation were deprived of all of the experiences grown men had in team sports. The bus rides, the plane rides, the camaraderie. Women were actually discouraged from playing sports many times and in many parts of the country because it wasn’t “lady like”. Lmfao.
It’s taken forever but I couldn’t be happier for all of the girls and women who are reaping the benefits of the groundwork pioneers like my bestie Clemette Haskins laid down for them.🏀❤️ simonandschuster.com/books/Its-Hard…
Many times there weren’t even girls teams or leagues. Girls played with the boys if they wanted to play.
Also, sidebar - boys and girls high school games were usually played on the same night. But they only played the national anthem before the boys varsity games.
Dan Zaksheske has 3k followers. He asked Dawn Staley a hypothetical about trans athletes at the women’s final four.
Beth Hoole has 5k followers. A little girl broke down crying after getting an autograph from one of the players at the women’s final four. She caught the moment and posted it.
You can see Dan’s posts on the “For You” tab. It currently has 14-million views.
You cannot see Beth Hoole’s posts unless you follow her. It currently has just 695k views.
Both posts were made at roughly the same time earlier today.

That’s @bethhooleVNL fwiw.
@bethhooleVNL You won’t find my account in the “For You” tab either fwiw. My “For You” tab is filled with nothing but right wing Ads, and barstool stuff.
He did his best to make it through the coaches show.
Rest in peace, Bobby Knight…
Coach Knight recruited me. When I told him I had narrowed my schools to 5 (over the phone) he could sense Indiana wasn’t one of the five — and he hung up on me. Lol.
We (UK) played them a year later and he apologized for it.
I coached his son Patrick at 5-Star that summer. We remained friends. RIP, Coach.
“This visualization of the @NASA has it all: It shows the CO2 that was emitted into the earth's atmosphere in 2021 + makes it clear who is responsible for the climate crisis. We, the Global North.”
“A closer look reveals that emissions from fossil fuels are shown in orange, burning biomass in red, terrestrial ecosystems in green, and the ocean in blue.”
“The dots on the surface also show how atmospheric CO2 is reabsorbed by the terrestrial ecosystems, green and blue - especially in the southern hemisphere.”
