Lavender uses WhatsApp messages as input to their AI - where do they get this from? Surely Meta should not be giving group membership to a military that is bombing their users and their entire families, without oversight?
Several of Meta's senior leaders have been significant supporters of Israel, including Zuckerberg donating to Zaka, and Sheryl Sandberg doing a propaganda tour
It is also not widely known that Lavender was produced by Unit 8200 (the Israeli NSA), and that Meta's CISO -- the most senior person responsible for policy and suppression of Palestinian content -- was in Unit 8200
Meanwhile, Meta has been systematically pro-Israel, suppressing Palestinian content, and has soft launched an anti-"anti-Zionist" policy that shocked @jvplive.
At the same time, they've neglected to release a transparency report for the time covered by Lavender's use
Overall, the lesson is that people should not trust WhatsApp at all, and should migrate to other messaging apps like @signalapp
A lot of difficult questions for Meta before that trust can be rebuilt, and I don't honestly believe that Meta can or will answer them
Lavender should be viewed as a systematization of genocide. It creates the system by which mass murder is enabled and accomplished, and is the Auschwitz of this war.
Nazi's could just have killed their victims where they stood, but the system -- the trains, the camps, the gas chambers -- was necessary to keep their population complacent to the genocide
Israel needs a similar "machinery" to provide a veneer of legitimacy to the genocide its committing, in particular to keep the US and western allies on the team. It has created many.
To put the intercept article in broader context:
- Israel pushed lies about sexual violence
- NYT editors demanded an article to supprt it
- NYT got a first time "reporter" to "investigate"
- they found nothing. zero. nada
- they published it anyway
- Israel murders 30,000 people
In it, I call out my investors who are whitewashing the genocide and promoting Israeli talking points while Israel bombs and murders innocent civilians.
Please read and share - I don't want to have torched my career for nothing
I want to draw attention to another founder, @ekadamer, who was also kicked out of @ycombinator, but this time for calling out YC's misogyny. Thread ⬇️
Some thoughts on the GitHub/MS acquisition, as founder of @circleci, one of the GitHub’s biggest partners.
(PS am no longer at @circleci, and speaking in personal capacity)
GitHub was and is the dominant everything in devtools. Hard to fathom how much devs use github, probably more than all other devtool products combined, really more than anything except their editor/IDE/terminal
Microsoft just bought the center of an ecosystem growing at incredible pace (number of devs doubles every 5 years)
