🧵THREAD: We identify as pissed off.

By enshrining gender identity as a protected status they are effectively saying that women's safety is expendable. #TitleIX (1/4) Image
We are absolutely disgusted by how badly this administration continues to beat down what it means to be a woman. #TitleIX (2/4)
Recent incidents, like the appalling rape of a woman in Rikers by a biological male, are a stark reminder of the very real dangers posed by these reckless policies. #TitleIX (3/4)
This isn't progress; this is regression at its worst, and women are paying the price. #TitleIX (4/4)

Today I voted for the Motion to Vacate and remove the Speaker.

This isn’t about left vs right.

This isn’t about ideology.

This is about trust and keeping your word.

This is about making Congress do it’s job.
(1/7)
I promised the Lowcountry I would be an independent voice in Congress. That I would call the balls and strikes and do the right thing regardless of party.

The Speaker has not lived up to his word on how the House would operate.
(2/7)
No budget, no separate spending bills until it was too late, a CR which takes spending power out of the hands of the people and puts all the power into the hands of a select few. There has also been no action on many issues we care about and were promised.

Here is the full speech (PG-rated jokes and all) from Wednesday’s prayer breakfast. My speech was actually about a very vulnerable time in my life and I shed a few tears telling the story about how the church changed my life.🧵1/4
Getting saved 4 years ago gave me the second chance I needed. Finding my faith was also life changing for my family - and we haven’t looked back since. 🧵2/4
I am indebted to @SenatorTimScott for guiding me to his church, and I am indebted to our church for helping me get back on track, to find purpose in life and do good; to leave the world better than I found it. We can do all things through him. 🧵3/4

Washington is broken.

Republicans got outsmarted by a President who can’t find his pants.

I’m voting NO on the debt ceiling debacle because playing the DC game isn’t worth selling out our kids and grandkids.
Let’s dive into the bill:

This “deal” normalizes record high spending started during the pandemic. It sets these historically high spending levels as the baseline for all future spending. The bill then grows govt even more each year at about ~1%.
After factoring in a small cut to discretionary spending over the next 2 yrs, we are still talking about ~$6T more or less in spending bc of large increases in spending elsewhere.

In other words, it’s a wash spending-wise.

I’m voting no, but… (1/4)
The trove of documents former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows released to the Committee reads like a bad Tom Clancy novel. (2/4)
This case is unlike any other and it’s why I ask the Courts to expeditiously resolve the outstanding issue of Executive Privilege in this singular, unprecedented instance. This case is about Separation of Powers. (3/4)
