Jewish Americans had a golden era. It lasted from 1950-2000. That was the year the decline began and since then the slope has become ever steeper.
I read several articles in @Commentary over the weekend describing how horrible things have become and even as my concern grew from paragraph to paragraph, I couldn't help feeling infuriated.
For the past 25 years, I, and many, many other commentators in Israel and the U.S. were boycotted by the American Jewish community for warning in explicit detail about how the storm was gathering and growing and what would happen if BDS wasn't recognized as a movement first and foremost against American Jewry. We were boycotted for describing how anti-Israel sentiment was a means for normalizing discrimination against Jews in America and worldwide. We were castigated as extremists for explaining that the peace process with Palestinian terrorists was a ruse and means to delegitimize Israel and its supporters in America. The so-called "two-state solution," was a means to normalize the demonization and ostracism of pro-Israel Jews, and that there would never be peace with Palestinian terrorists.
The horrific Jew hatred seizing elite institutions and popular culture from coast to coast is a tragedy that played out in slow motion for 25 years before it blew up. It may not have been preventable. It probably wasn't. But forewarned is forearmed and rather than prepare for the coming storm, American Jewish leaders and institutions demonized the messengers.
