Polish authorities will withdraw claims of Russian responsibility for the crash of a government Tu-154 jet airliner in 2010 near the Russian city of Smolensk which killed president Lech Kaczynski, the new head of the republic’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The crash is controversial in Poland. The first commission, headed by former Interior Minister Jerzy Miller, supported the IAC's conclusions that the cause of the crash was the plane's descent below the allowed level in foggy conditions.
Later, another commission was set up under the leadership of former defense minister Macierewicz, which considered allegations of an assassination plot against former president Kaczynski, who was on board and died in the disaster.
