The nationalization of her maternal grandfather's thriving advertising business by Castro in 1960 is the pivotal point of her family narrative and may tie to Marco Rubio reaching out to her with an invitation to apply for the Ft Pierce bench.

Thus, in grandpa’s extended and closely-knit family Anti-Castro, Anti-Communist, and likely even Anti-Democrat vitriol would be served for breakfast for generations. Even more so at the table of Cannon’s mother Mercedes, who was grandpa’s able lieutenant in organizing and funding Anti-Castro movements from South Florida and from family business branch offices in 12 countries by 1981 [4][31].
Given the family breakfast regimen for 3 generations, if Cannon ended up presiding over a Trump conviction, especially before the election, a sizable portion of her extended family could be expected to wholly disown and turn their back on her.
Gratitude:
Cannon has more reason to feel exceedingly indebted to Trump than the lifetime bench appointment alone. Above and beyond there are family and community considerations missed by most if not all legacy media biographical sketches. The moment she got the Ft Pierce bench she was handed a plum case that went a long way towards settling the aforementioned grudge in the eyes of her family and the community where she took shape:
On March 4th 2019, through SOS Pompeo, Trump reversed 24 years of restraint on portions
of the Helms-Burton Act to open a narrow window allowing dispossessed Cuban exiles to sue for reparations against international companies granted use of those nationalized properties by Castro[28][50\
A month later on April 9th, Trump posted his “Complete And Total Endorsement" for Rubio[5].
A month later in May Rubio offered Cannon an application to the Ft Pierce bench.
A month later in June Rubio had received her carefully constructed application[28] and he got her started on the interviews and other vetting leading up to Trump's official judicial nomination announcement in early 2020.
Trumpian transactional logic could have been scheming for a twofer:
1. Taking "I alone can fix it" credit for a reparations victory fast-tracked to successfully conclude just before the 2020 election, securing a heavy Cuban-American turnout in his favor. ( if you know the community you know that would have been HUGE in a tight election ).
2. A "very" grateful federal bench to fast track the reparations case AND be there in a single-bench SDFLA court near Mar A Lago when he left office and faced the legal problems waiting for him even BEFORE Jan 6th.
Instead "everything" moved slower in 2020 due to covid:
The first reparations case to use Trump's window of opportunity was a group of 25 plaintiffs jointly filing suit against a Swiss cement company in Claflin v LafargeHolcim Ltd, hitting the docket of federal district Judge Kathleen Williams(Magistrate Alicia Otazo-Reyes), SDFLA, Miami, Sept 11 2020[1], too late to run its course before the election and too soon for Cannon to have even a wheel-spin shot at it, with her covid-delayed ZOOM confirmation happening on Nov 12th.

On Nov 23rd 2020, just eleven days after Cannon's confirmation, barely time to get fitted for a robe, a reassignment order moved 11 civil cases from Judge Williams' docket to Judge Canon,
including Claflin v. LafargeHolcim[32]. Just 7 months after that(total of 9 months after filing), in June 2021, the normally snail-paced Cannon presided over the settlement of this 25 party case in favor of plaintiffs.
To my knowledge that was the FIRST successful Castro-nationalized reparations case ever, probably sparking an all night street party on Calle Ocho, and making Judge Cannon something of a Cuban-exile folk hero, also helping boost her mom(who helped grandpa organize anti-Castro movements) to top shelf exile community society.
Who wouldn't be exceedingly grateful in her shoes? .

A Joe McCarthy level Communist-scare has been reanimated and MAGA-amplified in South Florida. It permeates the air in the Roger Stone documentary when he goes the 30 miles from home base in Ft Lauderdale down to Miami, recruiting Proud Boys for Stop The Steal/Jan 6th(as well as for his own personal security, cheapskate). Watch the whole documentary, there's a lot more revealed than just the clips used at the Jan 6th hearings[30].
Also, please check this short 2020 Republican convention speech on youtube[7]. This guy's Commie-under-every-bed Koolaid glass would have been set by Cannon's plate at family gatherings as well as at all Federalist Society seminars tailored to South Florida, and at the rest of the judicial-influence front group gatherings/seminars.
Would Cannon have just taken sips of that Koolaid to be polite at gatherings, or did she drink deeply as time wore on?
