First time for this new town hall format and over 1.2k of you crammed in at the last minute. Hell yeah. Thank you.
TLDR: Here's what we're focused on.
EVENTS: Monthly starting July, and not just social ones like Apes Come Home. We’re talking 3k+ players with low-latency, action gameplay. Guns and stuff. Mayhem.
ODK ALPHA: Putting builder tools in the hands of the community immediately.
REWARDS: Rewards for those who build Otherside.
First: We’re buds with Improbable again, Otherside is being built on MSquared, and @HermanNarula and the IO boys bought apes. Cool.
What’s the future look like? Starts with this page, The Agora. This is the front page of Otherside, and where you’re going to be able to launch into upcoming events and your avatar, like your Voyager, Ape, or Koda.
Speaking of Kodas. We’ve had a team of 60+ artists working to bring Kodas to life in 3D. Sounds like a lot of work because it is. But Kodas are the main characters of Otherside and we think this level of detail will set a new standard. All 800+ traits have already been modeled and we’re tracking for delivery of 3D models this summer.
Look at these lil dudes. I love em.
Something special we’ve codenamed Project Dragon starts in July.
It’s a massively multiplayer event with thousands of players competing across Meetropolis. There will be weapons and mayhem, but also plenty of jank: Nobody out there has done action gameplay with 3k+ people like this before.
There will be a Project Dragon every month starting in July. To start you can be your BAYC, Meebit, or Voyager. Kodas and others will enter the fight as their respective islands open up.
Excited to tell the Project Dragon story, which has been brewing for a very, very long time. Here’s a little teaser for it.
ODK ALPHA: We’re opening up the ODK, our extension of the MSquared World Builder, to a handful of creators over the next two weeks. We’re dogfooding the platform with a small group first but will open it up to all Otherdeed holders as soon as possible.
This is the thing I’m most excited about. From the amount of Bored Ape 3D models on the timeline, you’d think people would have had their models for months not a week. I’m hoping and frankly expecting a similar explosion of creators on Otherside.
Again, this is an alpha and a work in progress. Shit will break. But the bet we’re making is that we’ll get better results if we do this open, together.
APECHAIN
Horizen, Caldera, and Arbitrum are bringing this ApeCoin-based Layer 3 to life. First ApeChain test net “Jenkins” just went live in April. The second, “Curtis”, will go live in May. Mainnet later this summer. More importantly, the foundational work needed for the Otherside economy to trade seamlessly will be done.
The aim is to have transaction costs come down to less than a penny and to get maximum performance for all your digital assets. We’re having Yuga’s whole web3 engineering team take a look at not just ApeChain but the whole Arb ecosystem to see how we can get more deeply involved.
REWARDS
Let’s talk rewards for builders.
This part gets complicated but stick with me.
Somnia is a new pre-token Layer 1 blockchain. It’s fast, despite the name. But in addition to being a Layer 1, it’s also an omni-chain protocol that enables some cool interoperability across metaverses.
Otherside is powered by ApeCoin and ApeChain, not the Somnia blockchain (we’re just doing stuff with the protocol).
Anyway. We made a deal with Somnia so that all Otherdeed, Koda, BAYC, and MAYC holders will be able to complete quests and accrue Somnia points for participating in Otherside development and the next Somnia quest seasons.
And the bonuses stack big time, ensuring a massive chunk of rewards goes to Otherside holders who build the metaverse.
Basically: Help build the metaverse, and this pre-token Layer 1 blockchain will reward you. Follow @Somnia_Network for more info.
That’s a wrap for our first Otherside Town Hall in the metaverse. THANK YOU for coming out.

Stoked for 2nd Trip tomorrow - it’s a big step towards a persistent Otherside. Should be a great event for all Voyagers, but equally important it’s an opportunity to try out a lot of things that will help inform future co-development. 🧵
So what can we expect? There’ll be some fun new traversal mechanics, several new character models, a big push on concurrent players (need to beat the 4.4k Voyagers we had for First Trip), more regions supported, and a couple new environments...
There’s also going to be some light competition led by four great team captains. While there have been small closed-door tests, having literally thousands of users competing in the same space is not something I’ve seen in literally any video game or metaverse.
We love CryptoPunks. It’s no secret that Matt and John’s creation was a massive inspiration for BAYC. @GordonGoner and I see Punks as fine art - a generative art experiment etched onto the blockchain, adopted by a diverse community that stuck around in 2018 when so many left.
When we acquired Punks from Larva Labs, there were only two things we knew we wanted to do - the first was to turn over commercial rights to NFT holders similar to how we did for BAYC. The new terms will be rolling out in the next couple weeks.
