A year ago 5 (40+ year old) sorority sisters planned a trip to Turks and Caicos.
Two days before the trip one of the Sisters who had recently “recovered” from Covid experienced extreme pain in her calf and went to Urgent Care. 1/11

She concluded that the pain may be from working out but she was advised to go to the ER for imaging.
She went home instead.
Hours later, she had a pulmonary embolism and fell into a coma. 2/11

Although the group trip was insured for “any cause rebooking,” and everyone could have rebooked at a later date. They did not…citing that continuing their plans is what the Sister in the coma would have wanted. 😳 3/11
So they went on to enjoy their vacation, posting smiley-faced, fruity drinks FB and Instagram photos the whole time while their Sister’s family dealt with the tragedy of their loved one being in a coma.

Upon their return, they plastered their happy photos from their Turks and Caicos trip all over her hospital room for her husband and mother to see while their Sister still lay motionless in the bed with limited brain activity. 5/11
Over the weeks, her tests showed limited brain function. Although she opened her eyes, she can not talk, interact, focus her eyes, nor move. Her Sisters devised a rotating schedule for each Sister to visit once a month for 2 hours to give her husband and mother a break. 6/11
As you probably have guessed, the schedule only lasted 2 months (2 visits) as the Sisters went on with their lives.

These are not my Sorority Sisters. I am a friend to one of the Sisters, and I often make suggestions of Care to assist the family. Most of the time that I mention her, my friend forgets who I am referring to. 8/11
This is why I had to step back from a lot of people in my personal life for my own sanity because I’m not attracted to Narcissism…and right now this is exactly what society is exhibiting. 9/11
I’ve been struggling with how to Like people I no longer Respect. The answer for me is-I can’t.

Although I don’t know the Sister that is ill, I asked for her address a few weeks ago so I could send something to the family.
I’m still waiting on this request. It seems to be lost underneath social plans as she has become abandoned and discarded by those closest to her. 11/11
