With Khan re-elected, I dug into my 20mph research to see what's in store for London @Telegraph

Implications of the impossible "Vision Zero" plan (for zero major road injuries) are alarming.

And Khan's claims about safety are lies & half-truths.

This is the 2018 DfT paper mentioned (the "largest, most comprehensive and sophisticated study into the effects of 20mph speed limits to be undertaken in the UK”)

👉

Conclusions on safety clear... "insufficient evidence... no meaningful difference"

I realised that, in official docs like "Vision Zero" and media releases, TfL and Khan completely ignore this study.

Instead, they refer to this 2009 German data (that craftily only looks at head-on pedestrian collisions.)

Why? Because when this selective, outdated, foreign data is cut the right way, it allows them to make dubious claims about 20mph and safety.

Like this graphic, which appears all over Khan's transport plans. It is totally misleading!

So, if there is little evidence 20mph is safer, why are blanket zones appearing across London?

This is one reason I asked boroughs and TfL for the cost-benefit analysis (that they are required to do)

Shockingly, most hadn't bothered to do one👇

The "Business case narrative" that TfL sent over (weeks late) only really looks at one-off implementation costs.

It's not a cost-benefit-analysis. It just declares there are no costs and is largely incomplete.

I try to explain some of the many problems with this document in my Telegraph article.

I am happy to share it with anyone interested. It's a PDF and hasn't been scrutinised nearly enough.

There are also some revealing/amusing lines in it.

Are TfL admitting here the rush to introduce 20mph on the Transport for London Road Network (TLRN) by March was just to whip up Khan's base before the "pre-election period"?

Was the deadline about politics, not evidence?

If Khan won't tell the truth, central govt must step in & do a cost-benefit analysis of 20 mph & "Vision Zero"

London is now the world's slowest city for drivers.

Khan's claim this has no economic impact is absurd! @ranil @GregHands @Mark_J_Harper

It's also not the first time Khan has been caught misleading voters and even pressuring scientists.

Why do all the "misinformation" reporters and "fact checkers" give him a free pass?

Khan's lies on 20mph safety and air quality must be called out!
