In college they told us about propaganda and bias and how these things are bad. Then we had to put various media outlets on a chart from "reliable" to "unreliable". One could receive a poor grade on this assignment
In college a professor taught us that media fools the public, and stories are repeated until people think they are true. One example was the hysteria following the "War of the Worlds" broadcast. Apparently she did not know that stories of hysteria are, themselves, myths
In college we learned about archaeological ethics. All semester we learned of the importance of careful preservation.
Then Notre Dame was set on fire and we spent a day coming up with fun ideas as to how it should be rebuilt- as anything other than it's former state, of course
In college we learned that the Armenian genocide probably didn't really happen, from a Turkish adjunct who laughed about it. About 100 yards away was the "Institute for Genocide & Mass Atrocity Prevention"
In college we were taught that the Catholic and Orthodox churches "don't really have saints anymore"
In college a professor who taught a class about Ss. Perpetua & Felicity being lesbians made a point of showing me her jacket back patch depicting masturbation
In college a professor told me I shouldn't take a Russian language class because "those people are bigots"
In college we had "debates" about things like residential schools and abortion, but instead of actual debates, the person stuck with the "wrong" position was piled on by the class yelling at them until they just gave up and lost
In college if you tried to keep your head down and just do the work you'd be "called out" in class for having views that were "neutral" and therefore "took the side of the oppressor"
In college some Republican club tabled, and a bunch of students mobbed them, threw their stuff on the ground, and threatened them. The Republicans got in trouble. The DOE had to get involved
In college we heard multiple times that history classes have to be taught differently depending on who is president
In college a professor very plainly said that his job is to prepare the activists of the future. They just say it out loud
This was all in 2017-2020. Everything you hear about college is true and it's probably way worse by now
I remember stuff all the time, will probably add to this thread
I never argued with these people but I did wear a crucifix and didnt write about how some church fathers were trans or whatever, but I technically had good grades. They HATED me
In college my husband got into a supposedly exclusive honors class. It turned out to be all about global warming and one had to write a long paper about it from the perspective of their discipline.
He was a Classics major.

Once upon a time, every year for three years straight I was able to go to a meeting of a couple dozen regular nobodies like myself at which a Bishop would answer questions.
And every year, the same young woman would ask the same question: what about "deaconesses"?
And every year he would graciously give her the same answer.
And so, every year, this woman disrespected the time and energy of the Bishop, and everyone present, and took away a chance of some other conversation or question. She already knew the answer. But there were always
some new attendees, so she used it as a chance to broach the topic, challenge him, and draw attention to herself. She didn't ask him privately (he was available) and didn't really talk about it otherwise (the majority weren't interested).
