I get that Google is scared some startup will eat its lunch with AI, and they're probably right, but this product isn't ready for primetime.
It makes AI look bad for them to put this half-baked feature into a product hundreds of millions of people use.
They should create a new AI product separate from Google Search. And if they see a startup starting to gain steam that could kill Google Search, they should spend as much as necessary to buy it.
They probably should buy Perplexity from @AravSrinivas for $25B now.
By the way, there is a way to shut it off if you'd like.
