I have read and reviewed 100s of grant proposals for Polygon grant programs

Here's my definitive guide on the state of grants, and some advice for builders seeking grants

read on...🧵
1/ grants are myriad in design
- RPGF
- Quadratic
- Direct/milestone based
- Prospective/retroactive/research

Each by design aims to accomplish a different albeit unique outcome or objective

As a builder/researcher securing a grant, be aware of the subtle differences
2/ grant objectives matter

each network has their unique needs, and grant programs are designed to meet them

EF is about public goods
L2's and alt l1's are about ecosystem growth

It's on the builder to have a clear understanding of this difference, align proposal w/ this
3/ writing a great proposal is key
- at the end, it's about the money
- let the reviewer know - the ask, the 'why' behind it, and the break-up of the spend
- most imp bit are the outcomes you will deliver

make sure you have a clear grasp of these points
4/ focus on the reviewer

- most grants are asynchronous
- reviewer has no bg or prior knowledge of 'you' or the 'project'
- take your time making the application complete, objective, and detailed
- add links - website, whitepaper, litepaper, yellowpaper, deck etc.
5/ choose wisely

- grant farmers are a nay for many ecosystems
- showcase value
- what's your why behind going for a particular ecosystem
- what's your differentiation amidst existing projects already live on the chain

"Highlight your USP"
6/ free money is not a right, it's a privilege

- community is often looking for innovation
- try not to extract more than what you give back
- be considerate and empathetic to the needs of the ecosystem, and the community
7/ get review from other builders who've secured grants from the network before

- trust me, it'll do you a world of good
- get feedback
- be objective in receiving it
- be clear on what to keep, and what to ignore

feedback loops are often key to great proposals
8/

that's a wrap

if you want me to write more about grant programs in web3 drop in a 'yay' or smash that like button
