Good morning from New York.

The second day of jury deliberations has begun for Trump's historic first criminal case.

Justice Merchan announces there's a new jury note with a more refined request about the instructions.

Follow along here.
Service advisory:

Spotty Wi-Fi this morning.

Jurors pared down their request for the instructions—but not by much. The judge read a significant portion back to them earlier.

Then, jurors had the requested passages of testimony read back and returned to deliberations.

As always, the government's up first:

[...]

"What happens when someone with the highest duty to uphold the law decides that it doesn't apply to her?"
Prosecutor Kelly Brown Watzka:

"It undermines the entire justice system."

"Imagine what would happen if every judge decided which law to obey or follow."

WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING

A federal judge BLOCKED feds from RE-DETAINING Kilmar Abrego Garcia this morning at an immigration check-in.

A quick thread storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco…Image
Per emergency court filings:

After Abrego’s release on the grounds that there was no valid order of removal, an (Trump executive branch) immigration judge issued an order correcting the so-called “Scrivener’s Errol” at 7:01 pm ET. Image
Abrego’s lawyers sought emergency relief on the ground of, essentially, that’s not how any of this works.

They needed before the time of Abrego’s ICE check-in by 8 am TODAY.

Judge Xinis granted it. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.usco…
