Genesis 2:9,
and the Lord God planted a garden in Eden "mikkedem"
I bet "kedem" to be understood i.c.w. "terem" in Genesis 2:5
"terem" of which Rashi said:
Every טֶרֶם in Scripture has the meaning of “not yet,” and it does not mean“before,” and it cannot be made into a verb form, to say הִטְרִים, as one says
and this again related to what Rashi said on Genesis 1:1
at first God intended to create it to be placed under the rule of strict justice but He realised that the world could not thus endure and therefore gave precedence to ("hikdim" ) Divine Mercy allying it with Divine Justice
i.e. there is no time between the going forth of the river from Eden and its separation into four heads
