Big Tech companies like Google, Meta and Amazon have deceived lawmakers by lobbying through smaller front organizations, leading lawmakers claimed, asking for the firms to be banned from engaging with European Union institutions. 🧵
Social-democrat MEPs Paul Tang, René Repasi and Christel Schaldemose on Thursday submitted complaints against eight companies and lobbying groups to the EU’s lobbying body, the EU transparency register, according to documents seen by POLITICO
Google. Meta, Amazon, CCIA, IAB Europe, SME Connect, Allied for Startups and Connected Commerce Council are targeted by the complaints.
Digital Services Act: "We're lagging a little bit behind the DMA when it comes to finding solutions, we have more text, and therefore we also need to have a couple of more shadows meetings," says @SchaldemoseMEP, rapporteur for the Digital Services Act during a hearing.
@SchaldemoseMEP Schaldemose quite unhappy about the Commission which "needs to be a little bit more cautious when it comes to going into so many details when they comment on our work. They have made their job, and now we're making our job."
EPP's @ArbaKokalari:
-targeted ads: reiterates opposition to ban or opt-in, transparency is enough
-online marketplaces: strengthen due diligence obligations but let's not make marketplaces liable for products on their platforms
-scope: tackling very large platforms, not SMEs
