"Saving democracy" isn't a great motivator when most folks don't believe we live in a functioning democracy as it is.
Nor is defending institutions when many institutions have failed so many people in so many ways. 1/
Voters DO NOT WANT incremental change. They suffer economically as the cost of living rises and wages stagnate. The American Dream is lost for many Americans, even those who went to college. They're weighed down with debt and have no hope of owning a home or starting a family. 2/
Voters are begging for structural change. Never underestimate the desire of the American people to burn down Washington. They see both parties as corrupt and will vote for whomever they see as the biggest fighter/change agent. Blowing it up is better than the same old thing. 3/
Over the last 4 years, I went on a quest to hold election deniers accountable and prevent another Jan. 6 from ever happening again... and yesterday the certification went off without a hitch. I broke major scoops on Sen. Ron Johnson, Roger Stone, Justice Sam Alito and his wife Martha-Ann, and many other rightwing extremists. But America failed to get substantive accountability for many of the major players. 1/
My documentary about all this -- Gonzo for Democracy -- is so much more than Jan. 6, and it's even more relevant post-election, in our examination of how Trump won over working-class voters. 2/
We delve into the political climate in deindustrialized manufacturing communities, or Factory Towns, that led to the rise of Donald Trump, in interviews with Congressman @RoKhanna and Celinda Lake, and deep dive with Governor Ted Strickland, former state party chair @DavidPepper, and former Clinton campaign manager David Wilhelm in the quintessential Factory Towns state of Ohio. 3/
ICYMI, last week, I had some good interviews with my Alito scoops on MSNBC, CNN, ABC, and NewsNation. Here for you in one place, in order of airing 🧵
Many thanks to @thereidout, which we worked with for the cable exclusive on Martha-Ann on 6/10... 1/
Confirmed this one super last minute the morning of 6/11 -- as in I scrambled to wash the old make up off my face to be on camera in 20 minutes -- but many thanks to @acosta... 2/
Less of an interview, than a soundbite, but I'll take it any day.. @ABCWorldNews with David Muir on 6/11... 3/
