These trends reflect policy decisions. While the pensions “triple-lock” ensures the state retirement income of over-65s will not lose value in real terms, large families have received benefits cuts. 2/

After 14 years of the Tories, per-pupil spending has only just recovered to 2010 levels - but capital spending remains far below 2010 levels.

Meanwhile teacher pay has dropped, at the same time as they're paying out of their own pockets to support students in poverty. 3/

Business investment stalled after the Brexit referendum.

Long-term thinking was put on pause as firms tried to figure out what Brexit meant. Trade has been deterred and openness and investment has been hit. 4/

After 14 years of Tory governance, employment is up - but in-work poverty has spiralled.
