The Prajwal Revanna videos case starkly points to an overlooked need, says @aldebaran14. The media, law enforcement agencies and civil society are unprepared to swiftly protect victim-survivors and reduce further trauma. freespeechcollective.in/prajwal-revann…
@aldebaran14 In many videos the victim-survivors can be clearly seen and heard, neither their faces blurred nor voices masked. The videos are being virulently distributed on messaging apps, message boards and forums, social media platforms, torrents, and cloud storage services for videos.
@aldebaran14 What has happened in this case is the exact arc of almost all IBSA (Image Based Sexual Abuse) content and its impact on victim-survivors.
Commonly known by the misnomer “revenge porn”, IBSA refers to the capture, publishing and distribution of nude or sexually explicit images or videos without the consent of one or more persons in the frame.
IBSA content is a rampant and lucrative industry in India with well-established distribution mechanisms. There are several entities in its “supply chain”.
"...when an incident of IBSA occurs or is threatened, it is necessary to act quickly to provide psychological, technical and legal support to the victim-survivors. It is also crucial to remove images or videos quickly and put curbs and deterrents on their further distribution.
