Stake Pool Operators in the #CardanoCommunity
It's time to put your hands on the nodes!
read here what you need to know...
most nodes on Cardano mainnet currently (June 2024) are on version 8.9.x (chart from pooltool)
After the chain-load attack earlier this week engineers from @IOG_Eng developed an interim hotfix to mitigate the effects on further such attack attempts (thank you attacker for all the TX fees, and for pointing out where Cardano still had some room to improve)
this hotfix will come in two node versions and SPOs are free to chose which path they go.
8.9.4 is a hassle free update with just the hotfix
8.12.1 instead is practically the Chang1 Hardfork ready node, including the hotfix
keep in mind: 8.12.x and also 9.x then will require a complete chain replay, which takes a couple of hours.
You don't need to replay the chain now, if you go with 8.9.4, but cannot avoid it then when upgrading to v9 in a couple of weeks
as v8.12.1 comes with many new commands and some braking changes for the cli, you can expect node management suites like Jormanager or cnTools will support 8.9.4 but not 8.12.x
the hotfix will prevent your nodes to accept malicious TXs. So by updating all your relays, the producer node will be protected even if not updated with the hotfix.
The more relays are fixed the less these TXs will propagate globaly.
The more producers are fixed or fully protected via his relays, the less blocks with these TXs will be adopted on chain.
v8.12.1 is already available at
watch out for v8.9.4 which will follow soon
cntools, Jormanager, SPO Scripts, ecc will be ready soon.
