There are things FAR worse than a president being too old. Here is a list: 1. A president who purges the government of civil servants who are loyal to the Constitution 2. A president who sics the military on US citizens 3. A president who prosecutes his political opponents 1/🧵
4. A president who deports millions of immigrants, including by putting people in "vast holding facilities" 5. A president who moves the nation's homeless to "tent cities" 6. A president who bans abortion nationwide by using a 19th century law
2/
7. A president who illegally and massively expands executive power and defies court rulings that try and stop him 8. A president who tries to serve three terms in violation of the Constitution 9. A president who does coups to try and stay in power
3/
10. A president who abandons Ukraine and aligns America with Russia 11. A president who abandons NATO allies 11. A president who abandons Taiwan and praises Xi Jinping 12. A president who encourages Bibi to do whatever he wants 13. A president who invades Mexico
4/
14. A president who appoints Jared Kushner to a position of power 15. A president who appoints Kash Patel to a position of power 17. A president who appoints Stephen Miller to a position of power 18. A president who appoints Steve Bannon to a position of power

I could go on and on and on... The point is there are things FAR worse than a president being too old. We need to get the American people to focus on the STAKES of this race.
Biden's age may be baked in, but the stakes aren't. LETS BAKE THEM IN.
7/7 END THREAD
P.S. Donald Trump is really old too. He's also a racist, a convicted felon, has been found liable for sexual abuse, and hosted a neo-Nazi for dinner.

In the spirit of ACTING rather than ruminating, how about the idea of “Freedom Rallies” in swing states.
They’d be headlined by Biden or Obama, as well as by key nonpartisan or bi-partisan surrogates, and celebrate America. This wouldn’t just be about democracy … 1/
… these rallies would be about celebrating our culture, our diversity, our beautiful country, our food, as well as our Constitution. These would be joyful, patriotic occasions.
Sure, they could talk about Donald Trump, but the message here would be positive. 2/
An implicit message would be that Trump isn’t just a threat to our democracy. He’s a threat to everything that makes us great. By dividing us, he is not just threatening our democratic exceptionalism, he’s threatening our cultural exceptionalism too, the fabric of our nation. 3/
"That’s the difficulty. If the last and worst act of the whole regime had come immediately after the first and smallest, thousands, yes, millions would have been sufficiently shocked...But of course this isn’t the way it happens..." 1/
"In between come all the hundreds of little steps, some of them imperceptible, each of them preparing you not to be shocked by the next. Step C is not so much worse than Step B, and, if you did not make a stand at Step B why should you at Step C? And so on to Step D." 2/
"And one day, too late, your principles, if you were ever sensible of them, all rush in upon you. The burden of self-deception has grown too heavy, and some minor incident, in my case my little boy, hardly more than a baby, saying ‘Jewish swine,’ collapses it all at once..." 3/
For seven yrs, I’ve been told Americans don’t care about democracy. Nonsense.
They might not care about abstract principles. But most Americans want nothing to do w/ coups or book bans. They want nothing to do w/ purges of civil servants or taking away fundamental rights. 1/🧵
Most Americans don’t want extremist judges forcing their ideology on the rest of the country.
They don’t want politicians sowing hatred and fueling racism, bigotry, or xenophobia of any kind. 2/
Most Americans don’t want anyone to be above the law. On a root level, most Americans understand the Rule of Law is about fairness. And most Americans are fair.
And most Americans don’t want to destroy our institutions, even though they may lack faith in them at times. 3/
I think it’s time for @taylorswift13 to announce her bus tour to save America.
She could travel in swing states, stopping at a different location for a couple days at a time, performing massive and free concerts.
Each event would help register voters but not only that... 1/🧵
Each performance would also include a civics element. It wouldn’t just be Taylor singing. She’d tell folks why she was fighting to save our democracy.
And she would be joined by others doing the same. Maybe a particularly charismatic history professor from the local college? 2/
Maybe local veterans could tell the crowd about the importance of duty and citizenship? About how the greatest generation had to put their lives on the line. But all we have to do is vote. And that it’s OUR TIME to step up. 3/
After a terrible miscarriage, my wife was told she wouldn’t be able to get pregnant or stay pregnant. We went through the process of surrogacy (and IVF as part of that). During a REALLY dark time, this gave us hope. It also exposed us to so many others like us … 1/🧵
… who couldn’t conceive naturally.
My wife and I SOMEHOW conceived naturally after all and are expecting our second child in a couple days. But in anticipation of that, and due to Republican efforts to ban IVF and surrogacy, I have been thinking a lot about our experience. 2/
Our experience is a miracle. But so many other couples don’t have that miracle. They need the miracle of science to help them grow their family. And even another person, which is another kind of miracle. The surrogate we found had a family of her own and desperately wanted to…3/
There should be a heavily financed group that makes it their mission in life to flip states blue that no one thinks will go blue. Maybe call it “Miracles PAC” after the famous “do you believe in miracles” US hockey moment. THREAD
I totally understand the Biden campaign has limited resources. That its surrogates and Biden himself can only be in one place at a time and there’s only so much time before the election. But here me out.
Post-Dobbs our elections are all kind of funky. Look at the midterms. 2/
Even more shocking were the abortion referendum results out of Kansas and Alaska. I’m not really sure if anyone has a great grasp of the electorate right now. So why not take some big swings in a couple states that conventional wisdom says are long shots. 3/
