Would you rely on a smoke detector that only beeped during 28% of fires?
If not, then don't rely on one regular rapid test that picks up on covid only 28% of the time. 🥴
Stats below!!

How to interpret these percentages:
*If* you genuinely have Covid, the chances that you will actually test positive on a single rapid test are 28%.
In other words, 72% of the time that you *actually have Covid* you'll nonetheless be negative on a single rapid. 🥴
If you're wondering why this post has been reposted, it's because the titular caption on the infographic wasn't clear enough in the first version! Huge thank you to Daniel who took a LOT of his time to explain why and suggest more accurate language. 🥳

Please treat this as a recommendation of many layers to consider, and remember that any single layer is better than none. The most important layer here, masks, can be achieved for under $5!

🥈 At a close 2nd place, the Metrix molecular test has an impressive 96.7% test sensitivity and a much cheaper startup cost (though this is negated over time by the more expensive tests). Also a really good system to get.
With the declining accuracy of rapid antigen tests for covid, we need other solutions. Here's a roundup of some at-home molecular tests that offer extremely high accuracy 🧵
CUE's at home test offers the highest sensitivity, at 97.4% (100% in clinical use). But the cost is high!
Metrix comes in with almost the same test sensitivity as CUE, for a quarter of the cost 🙂
Communicating about covid needs and boundaries can be really hard. Here are some strategies that have helped me navigate this with less conflict and more success. 🧵
1. Discuss covid precautions ahead of time in a low-emotion environment.
2. Set them up for success by focusing on shared values. This could be a shared activity, tradition, or desire. The goal is to connect. Say something like, “I’m really looking forward to our Christmas Eve tradition.”
