As mentioned at the beginning, since the start of the war, Russia has redeployed a large number of S-300 and S-400 systems from its military districts to bolster air defense capabilities along the front lines and at locations of strategic and tactical importance in the war .

Why were crude S-300/400 decoys, first identified in 2023, placed in new and existing Russian air defense positions?
And what are the reasons for using crude decoys?

What is the difference between an elaborate decoy and a crude decoy?
Simply put, it is the shape of the launching pad.
Crude decoys have a connected launch pad and are perfectly rectangular. The elaborate decoy, however, is trapezoidal, like a real TEL.

In what situations are crude decoys used?
From the decoy placements I have been able to identify, the following can be derived 1) They are deployed for new air defense positions 2) To cheat the dispersion of forces 3) To cheat a reduction in force
