Board members themselves should never be that near to the micro details of football operations.
It's one thing if you have a scouting/transfer system in place run by experts in the field, and they are reporting back to the board.
Not the board actually hands deep themselves.

Celtic appear to rely heavily on their favourite agents, or agents they know.
Dudu Dahan a previous favourite.
Lagerbielke was mentioned to the club by Starfelt's agent after selling the latter.
The CEO ringing around agents or vice versa to source players is hardly ideal.

Again, that hardly makes an efficient model for a club our size.

Take this very basic structure of a modern club.
Many departments, each with a specific role. With experts being able to work in that one area, you maximise the value you get out of it.
All working together to a common goal.
Celtic appear to do none of this sadly.

Implementing a modern football structure means Desmond etc giving up some of that direct say in every facet of the club.
Thus it sadly appears to be a non starter.

We have 41 players reporting back for preseason. On top of the recruitment needed.
What's the plan for all them, and who oversees that plan?

Some will say this should be in the managers hands. But on top of his duties to manage the team?
Is he really going scouting players himself?
What about when he leaves? Reset to zero?

With a Sporting Director ensuring all are working together proficiently.
...Or is it all on the manager?

So why do they want a direct influence?
Same applies to manager appointments. He must buy into that structure & work with it.
Last year, the shortlist of candidates bandied about:

Pros or cons of Rodgers' appointment, that's hardly the best way to appoint a manager.
Especially if it's trying to build on something already there, or to fit in a structure.
Almost guaranteeing a reset every time.
None of this is an efficient way to do business.

I can't understand how businessmen allow the football operations side to run that poorly.
The inefficiencies make us hemorrhage money. And we don't maximise ourselves to be the best run club we can be.
E.g, an entire Academy, wasted. Because of lack of structure/plan.

Sitting on "We're the biggest club. So we'll win most the time" might be "ok" domestically.
But progress in Europe is even more uphill. You need to eek out every advantage, and we just don't do that.
