There are TWO types of "Delegates" PLEDGED & UNPLEDGED or "SUPERDELEGATES"

PLEDGED simply means that they have either ALREADY LEGALLY COMMITTED TO A CANDIDATE or AGREE TO COMMIT TO THE CANDIDATE THAT WINS THEIR STATE'S PRIMARY

The # & Del selection method varies by STATE

PLEDGED Delegates CANNOT LEGALLY CHANGE THEIR VOTES

They have been SELECTED BY THE VOTERS TO REPRESENT THEM AT THE CONVENTION

Go Google "rogue delegates" for the history & backstory on WHY they are now LEGALLY BOUND by their RESPECTIVE STATES & DNC RULES A

Now for the process at the Convention:

PLEDGED Delegates VOTE FIRST
(you can thank the Vermont Jesus Bros for that), ALL OF THEM

That's 3,903 PLEDGED VOTES, THAT CANNOT BE CHANGED

Remember, the above reasons ☝🏽

IF (which WILL NOT HAPPEN IN AUGUST) there's a close race THEN

In ROUND ONE, again there are 3903 PLEDGED VOTES

To become the NOMINEE, he only NEEDED 1968

If DURING THE PRIMARIES, the race was TIGHT, with the PLEDGED DELEGATES BEING SPLIT AMONGST THE VARIOUS CANDIDATES RUNNING, MAYBE then that PD count wouldn't be enough for ONE Candidate to "clinch" Round One

That's called a "contested Convention" & EVERYONE would EXPECT Round 2

Round 2 is where the SUPERDELEGATES get their time to shine:

THEY ARE UNCOMMITTED,& CAN VOTE FOR ANYONE, so they are NOT LEGALLY PLEDGED TO ANY ONE CANDIDATE

MOCs, DNC Board Members, State Party Leaders & Legislators are SUPERDELEGATES (739)

AND the # to get the Nom goes UP

UNLESS OR UNTIL POTUS says it out of his OWN MOUTH that he is dropping out, THE SUPERDELEGATES WON'T EVEN VOTE AT THE CONVENTION ITSELF
