The Democrats have several category 5 nightmares to deal with rn
1) The Bidens: Jill Biden matters for the first time in her life. There's no incentive for her to cede power. And Biden's view is he kicked Trump out of the WH and therefore can do so again
2) Kamala: She can become president any minute now. Literally anything else is a demotion. She couldn't even make Iowa and is less electable than Biden. If the VP were a viable Plan B, Biden would have been gone already. They'd need to figure out how to get her to back down.
3) The Democrat elites: Other than Hillary--a previous nominee who lost yet with millions more votes--it would be almost impossible to designate someone else as the nominee and have all the other power-hungry sociopaths just smile and nod.
4) The base: They'll vote blue no matter who but they sure would need a reason why they aren't having even an ostensible say in the replacement--especially after years of being told democracy is under existential threat
5) The media: Yes, corporate journalists are overwhelmingly progressive. But they're even more interested in fantasizing about being the next Woodward & Bernstein. They now have to act like they didn't know this whole time, and every minor Biden misstep will be blown up
6) The donors: These types are used to some ROI. Much harder to get them to waste their money on a losing campaign than on a sure thing. Writing a check and getting a call from candidate Obama was a lot more impressive than getting Biden on the phone.
7) The ballots: It's too late to change the name on the ballot in some states. At the very least some Republican governors or secretaries of state would force the Dems to drain resources on legal challenges.
All of these issues are surmountable, none of them easily so. And every day that passes is one day harder to change course.
tl;dr We live in the best timeline

@RobertKennedyJr @RollingStone and here's a great piece about how wonderful RFK jr thought Hugo Chavez was for Venezuela, when he was being considered to head the EPA (!) for Obama

I dont agree that all that National Divorce, which is becoming mainstreamed far faster than I dared to dream, needs to be a function of Republican vs Democrat
A NY Republican is not the same as a SC Republican, and an FL Democrat is not the same as a CA Democrat
We already live in a nation where huge percentages of the population are under the sway of politicians whose ideologies and culture are antithetical to their own
That will still be the case once the nation divides
It will simply be less of the case
The conservatives who insist they aren't giving up Seattle and NYC might just as well argue for invading Ottawa
Unless they are arguing for something akin to Reconstruction, where the cities are occupied territory at enormous personal and financial cost, it is a utopian fantasy
conservatives still often fixate on whatever bullshit debate is at hand, as if their opponents are negotiating in good faith
here is a great example of environmentalism being thrown in the trash bc it isn't of use in furthering the agenda
nothing matters to them except power
we're about one election cycle away from boomercons blathering about how "conservatives are the real environmentalests!!1"
Under House rules, a Republican voting "present" tomorrow would count as a vote for Kevin McCarthy as Speaker since the nominee only needs a majority of voting members to win the speakership.
Let's find out if the five "no to McCarthy" congressmen plan to vote "present"
Hey @andybiggs4az , as you know, voting "present" for the speaker of the house tomorrow will effectively serve as a vote for Kevin McCarthy.
Can you confirm whether you will be voting "present" tomorrow?
