Trappist beer is Catholic Beer

Beer is a 28 BILLION dollar annual industry, let's vote with our dollars

And the dog days of summer are perfect for supporting fellow Catholics & quenching your thirst

Here are 6 Catholic Beers to stock up on & support! Image
Chimay

In 1850 the Prince of Chimay, Joseph de Riquet de Caraman entrusted a mission to small group of monks from Westvleteren & Father Jean-Baptiste Jourdain to take up residence on the high plateau of Scoutmont with the aim, then as now, of “supporting the Chimay region”.

And thus Chimay beer was born. One of the easiest beers to order and find!Image
Westmalle

Founded in 1794 by Trappists fleeing the French Revolution they were persuaded to stay by the local Bishop and found their home in a small farm aptly named Nooit Rust (Never Rest).

The strong golden ale brewed here was the first to use the term Tripel, which is easily found at most specialty beer stores.Image
Trappistes Rochefort

Brewed at the Abbey of Our Lady of Saint Remy Rochefort Belgium, founded in 1230 they didn't start brewing until 1559. This Abbey survived horrors like the French Revolution & WW2, proving that it is truly the providence of God can guide & protect our work if it is pleasing to Him.

You can find their Triple & other brews in most shopsImage
Achel Brewery

Although no longer a Trappist beer since 2021 because of the LACK of monks, this beer is still operated and overseen by Catholics

Offering 6 beers that still support their mission & charitable works you can find them in most specialty shops Image
Orval Brewery

Established in 1931 to help finance reconstruction costs it has had the help of monks & lay workers alike. Master brewer Pappenheimer invented this classic beer recipe.

The distinctive fruity and bitter taste of Orval beer make it a standout that is a must try & easy to find.Image
Last but not least Westvleteren Trappist Beer

Certainly the hardest to obtain this beer is brewed by the monks of Sint-Sixtus abbey starting in 1839. Five natural ingredients are used to brew their three beers.

Brewed & bottled by the monks on-site, you can only get these at the Abbey. Now you have an excuse to book that pilgrimageImage
