Folks, this is a space for information warfare. Take a tip from Swifties: when you see anti-Kamala content/trending topics co-opt it. How? Use the trending keywords to circulate pro-Kamala content. Flood their zone with positivity.
Folks tend to argue facts on here, but hat's not what the memes are for. The memes drown out positive/rational/fact-based discussion for negative stereotypes. Don't argue against it bc that's a losing strategy when it's not about facts, but presence. Instead co-op w/positivity.
I'm glad you asked. DO NOT RESPOND to any post, because, yes, that boosts the negativity. Co-op the post. Take the keywords they use/trending and TURN it back by posting a positive meme. Do not recirculate their content. Take whatever word and re-purpose.
The Swiftie example is from a few months back when some nasty fake AI images of TSwift circulated, the Swifties drowned them out with positive TSwift content and you couldn't hardly even find the original posts. That's what the baddie info-warriors do on here. Control the convo.
The whole point of twitter is to control the conversation on twitter. It's so much the point that The Overlord bought twitter so he could control the conversation on twitter. If you didn't already know this, NOW is the time to understand. These are the infowars. You're in them.
Here's a thing about frame warfare that might help: is it an "invasion" or "humanitarian crisis"? The frame you choose might be the only thing that matters. I'm saying co-opt & re-frame trending things to lesson their power in controlling the conversation: resolutesquare.com/articles/1Bu02…
So I see "resign now" trending, click on it and this is the top result I see. This post isn't responding directly to any other post (so not giving it amplification), but has "turned" the trending topic to make a pro-Kamala point. This is a fine example.
Information warfare is designed to control the conversation. It relies on circulation and amplification (volume), on narratives (frames/memes), and on rhetorical strategies (outrage, demoralize, spread hypocrisy, make hate-objects, etc.). The baddies know this. You should too.
I try to explain that we try to use social media for doing democratic deliberation, but these apps are not designed for that. They are much more conducive to information warfare, which is what we've been subjected to since 2015.
I hate it, but at this point, this is the game.
Proud of all y’all!
As another example, here is my contribution to the cat discourse:
I wrote about how Trump treated women as objects during the 2020 election. They were either hate-objects or sexy-objects, but never people.
And Kristina Horn Sheeler & Karrin Vasby Anderson have explained how the public discourse against women candidates works in their book Woman President: books.google.com/books?id=NfVJA…
Pompeo didn't use "unity" strategies. He used divisive strategies: name-calling, blaming Democrats, accusing Democrats of being anti-American, and did not offer to compromise with Democrats to solve problems. So far "unity" means "capitulate" to Republican rightwing extremism.
Trump walks in looking sheepish and meek, sort of hunched over. I guess that's him trying to look "softer." It's different, that's for sure. Makes him look older.
Um, “disruptive”? 😱And, no, you won’t be covering it. If Trump wins y’all will be printing press releases.
Some folks don’t seem to understand what fascism means.
It’s not “politics as usual.” It’s not a typical election. It’s an existential crisis for the nation and the world. Please take it seriously. 🥹
If you’re a media org and you’re not planning for a fascist takeover of your business, then you’re not taking it seriously enough. It’s the first thing they do.
“No one ever says, 'What we need is a weak leader.' Strength is to be admired, weakness to be deplored or pitied. Yet the facile weak-strong dichotomy is a very limited and unhelpful way of assessing individual leaders. There are many qualities desirable in a political leader..."
"that should matter more than the criterion of strength, one better suited to judging weightlifters or long-distance runners. These include integrity, intelligence, articulateness, collegiality, shrewd judgement, a questioning mind, willingness to seek disparate views..."
"ability to absorb information, flexibility, good memory, courage, vision, empathy and boundless energy. Although incomplete, that is already a formidable list. We should hardly expect most leaders to embody all of those qualities..."
When folks say “don’t give up in advance?” What does that mean? 🧵
It means do not allow yourself to succumb to the new fascist disciplinary regime. Fascism is a way of thinking, associating, and communicating. So is democracy.
The fascist regime will constantly exert its will over you—both your thoughts and your actions. It will require obedience and outward displays of loyalty. People will be fired and silenced for being disloyal to the regime. Faced with those threats, most people will comply.
