This is so upsetting for many reasons but I have to say I am so upset to see that @FollettLearning provided student checkout information including student names 1/ 7 #tlchatnbcnews.com/news/us-news/s…
From article - “London also secured subpoenas for Follett School Solutions, an education software company that Granbury uses to help manage its library collection, to obtain records for the dates and times that several titles were checked out from campus libraries.” 2/7
“Some of the records obtained by London included the names of students who had most recently checked out the books — a clear violation of student privacy, according to First Amendment experts.” 3/7
This is NOT OK!! @FollettLearning you could have fought the subpoena. We need vendors who will fight for what we all know is right. We do not need vendors who will comply with these outrageous requests. 4/7
I am so disappointed in @FollettLearning as someone who has lost their job due to censorship & is still dealing with the emotional & financial repercussions I need to speak up against what you did. These brave librarians were facing prison 5/7
And you @FollettLearning gave the police confidential information protected by the first amendment to them which could have lead to these librarians prosecution. This is not the first time you have done something like this. 6/7
I would love to hear an explanation from @FollettLearning on why you complied. This action has scared a lot of librarians who use your product including me. We await your reply 7/7 #tlchat #FutureReadylibs #istelibs

TY Publishers Weekly for writing about this. It’s important that we start calling out companies like @FollettLearning who put profits over doing what it right. Here are some of my thoughts while reading about this. @FReadomFighters publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/in…
First this requirement to rate books does not happen until April 2024 so why @FollettLearning is pushing publishers to rate their books by Sept 1 2023 is beyond me. #FReadom
How @FollettLearning expects publishers to by Sep. 1 2023 rate their books when even Follett admits that Texas has not provided detailed “guidelines” on how to rate books for sexual content is beyond me. #FReadom
Reading more on the Houston ISD decision to turn libraries into behavioral centers or zoom rooms. Here are some highlights from a tour of one of the new elementary schools from the Houston Chronical #HISD #edchat #tlchat
Let’s talk about new hallway system for a second. Kids can’t talk or socialize. They are expected to walk in single file lines. Middle school students are suppose to do that…I can’t wait to see teachers try to enforce that.
Now let’s talk about how teachers will teach. They will have standardized lessons, a webcam watching them and a timer on the board to keep track of each activity. Lesson plans will be made by central office. Why have teachers at this point? #HISD
