Deputy Finance Minister Wally Adeyemo warned Indian banks on Wednesday that financial institutions doing business with Russian military-industrial enterprises risk losing access to the US financial system.
This is stated in a letter sent to the Banks Association of India and Indian industry associations. The Reuters agency got acquainted with the letter.

"We know that the Russian military relies on the import of sensitive goods, such as machine tools and microelectronics, and
turns to foreign financial institutions to facilitate these transactions," the document states.
After meeting with Putin earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was exploring the possibility of increasing exports to Russia.

According to Adeyemo, the current letter follows President Joe Biden's executive order issued in December authorizing sanctions
against foreign financial institutions that do business with RU military-industrial complex

The US is committed to continuing to strengthen economic relations with India, Adeyemo stressed, noting that trade between the two countries has grown by more than 110 percent in a decade
And Modi understood everything. Why take such a risk and expose the country to American sanctions when there is already a large flow of Western capital in India right now.
