The COVID-19 thrombus: distinguishing pathological, mechanistic, and phenotypic features and management | Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis link.springer.com/article/10.100…
“COVID-19, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus is an acquired thrombophila with a high incidence of thrombosis.
“Thrombosis is caused by endothelial cell inflammation and an immuno-inflammatory state.
“Thrombosis occurs in the venous, arterial, and microcirculatory systems and can involve most organs and organ systems.
“The long-term sequela of COVID-19 could include a heightened risk for atherosclerosis and cardiovascular events.
“There is a need for indepth investigation of the natural history of COVID-19 to include long-COVID also refered to as post-COVID conditions.”
Superb review of the blood clotting issues that characterize COVID infection. This virus damages the lining of our blood vessels and promotes clots in all parts of our bodies.

Prevalence and co-occurrence of cognitive impairment in children and young people up to 12-months post infection with SARS-CoV-2 (Omicron variant) pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38735404/
“CYP have a fluctuating experience of cognitive impairment by 12-months post SARS-CoV-2-infection. Cognitive impairment is consistently correlated with poorer sleep, behavioural and emotional functioning over a 12-month period.

Buildings | Free Full-Text | Verification of Ventilation and Aerosol Diffusion Characteristics on COVID-19 Transmission through the Air Occurred at an Ice Arena in Japan mdpi.com/2075-5309/14/6…
“It was determined that the virus-containing aerosol was released from a player in the ice rink and accumulated in the cold air spot. After that, it was highly possible that it diffused from the player benches to the spectator seats due to the players’ movements under this unique
“air-conditioning and ventilation system. Judging from the results of genomic analysis, ventilation characteristics, and aerosol diffusion characteristics, the possibility of COVID-19 transmission through the air cannot be ruled out in an ice arena.”

Britain slammed for infecting thousands with tainted blood, covering up scandal | AP News apnews.com/article/uk-inf…
What a horrendous story! Over 30,000 people infected with HIV and Hepatitis C and 3,000 dead. It took over 30 years for this tragedy to be investigated and uncovered. Persons in responsible positions and government hid and destroyed evidence to cover the trail.
Not very different from what occurred in Canada except that the Krever Inquiry into the tainted blood scandal completed its work 27 years ago in 1997.

Impact of interventions to reduce nosocomial transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in English NHS Trusts: a computational modelling study bmcinfectdis.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…
“Interventions to reduce the spread of nosocomial infections have varying impact, but the package of interventions implemented in England significantly reduced nosocomial transmission to both patients and HCWs over the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.”
“These results highlight the importance of maintaining high levels of compliance to infection prevention and control measures in hospitals and have important implications as hospitals prepare for a surge in demand due to emerging winter pressures and COVID-19.”

Brain abnormalities in survivors of COVID-19 after 2-year recovery: a functional MRI study - The Lancet Regional Health – Western Pacific thelancet.com/journals/lanwp…
“This long-term study suggests that individuals recovering from COVID-19 continue to experience cognitive complaints, psychiatric and neurological symptoms, and brain functional alteration.
The rs-fMRI results indicated that the changes in brain function in regions such as the putamen, temporal lobe, and superior parietal gyrus may contribute to cognitive complaints in individuals with long COVID even after 2-year infection.”

Airborne disease transmission risks on public transit buses: Impacts of ridership, duration, and mechanical filtration using a relative risk metric - ScienceDirect sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
“From these simulations, continuous fan operation using a MERV 13 filter were modeled to reduce risks approximately fivefold compared to intermittent fan operation (25% runtime) and 1–2 orders of magnitude less as compared to no HVAC recirculation and filtration,
“highlighting the need for mechanical system upgrades and regular maintenance for transit vehicles.”
