Tom Cruise was offered the role of Bart’s Big Brother in "Brother From the Same Planet". However, the writers claim that Cruise declined the offer on multiple occasions, resulting in Phil Hartman ultimately taking on the role. Despite this, there was a subtle nod to Cruise within the character, as Bart mentions Tom being an F-14 aviator in the episode.Image

Courtney Love was supposed to appear in “Homerpalooza” but the offer was withdrawn when Sonic Youth refused to be in the same episode as Love. Apparently, the producers really wanted Love for one joke: she was scripted to greet Homer with "Hi Homer! I'm a big fan, Courtney Love." To which Homer would have responded, "Homer grateful!"
