There were several riders on April 19th, 1775.

The riders had 2 missions- alert Lexington & Concord and surrounding towns to tell them to put their surprise attack plan into action, and tell Sam Adams & John Hancock to flee.

Sybil Ludington’s involvement is a massive lie her clout-chasing nephew told decades later that I won’t ever dignify.

We know Sybil existed due to her husband’s pension, but all those involved kept meticulous diaries & records yet she is absent from every single one of them.

She kept her own diaries. Not a word about any involvement in the war effort whatsoever. But people wanted to believe this fantastic story about a young tomboy riding twice the length of Paul Revere and 3 times as fast, recruiting men, dodging burning villages, and getting honors from George Washington. They even built her a statue. But none of that ever happened. There is not a shred of evidence. All there is was the word of her nephew to a women’s group. He was probably looking to smash. Typical male feminist. Gross.

Women were part of the revolution— Deborah Sampson, Molly Pitcher, Abigail Adams— just not Sybil Ludington.

On a day so sad for so many, I try every year to look for the helpers— and devote a thread to the Rescue dogs of 9/11-

Bretagne was just two years old at the time of the 9/11 attacks. She and Denise Corliss, her owner and handler, worked at Ground Zero for 10 days as their mission went from rescue to recovery. Image
Bretagne was the last surviving 9/11 search and rescue dog until June 6, 2016, when she was laid to rest just before she turned 17 years old.

As Bretagne entered the animal hospital in Cypress, Texas, firefighters and search and rescue workers from the fire department lined the sidewalk and saluted. She was carried out later, her body draped in an American flag. A statue erected in her honor.
