Antminer S21 XP 270T - First Impressions
Announced in June 2024, first batch of Antminer S21 XP 270T was released last week. We just got our first units, so lets take a closer look at the device 🔍👀Image
Packaging
Antminer S21 XP came in packaging identical to S21 Pro. Both the miners have the same gross weight of about 47 lbs. And just like S21 Pro, the S21 XP came with a C20-P13 power cable in the box.Image

Size & Appearance
S21 XP is identical in dimensions to S21 Pro. It has 140mm fans and APW171215a PSU. One notable difference is the presence of a small LED display on the control board panel.Image

Performance
273T| 3684 W| 13.49 J/T

Freq: 490 Mhz
Core Voltage: 13.83V
Intake Air Temp: 75F

S21 XP's real world efficiency of 13.49 J/T meets expectations. It's ~12% better than efficiency on S21 Pro.

Notice the fans are running at 60%, indicating room for overclockingImage

Chips
💡Notice that S21 XP has 91 chips per hashboard, which is much higher than 65 chips on S21 Pro hashboard. However each chip is hashing at ~1 Th which is about 20% lower than per chip hashrate on S21 Pro. Are these BM1370 chips running more efficiently at lower clock freq?
Control Board & Display
This S21 XP has a Amlogic A113D control board, very similar to the control board on S21 Pro. One notable difference is the presence of detachable 0.91" I2C OLED display. As Bitaxe fans, we'll put this in the 'imitation is flattery' column @skot9000!Image

Hashboards
Antminer S21 XP hashboards are fairly similar to S21 Pro and S21. They are aluminum backed with pastel blue thermal compound and integrated bolt on heatsinks.Image

Hashboard Power Delivery
There are some peculiar difference in power delivery on S21 XP hashboards. What used to be thick traces on the printed circuit board for previous antminers, now appear to be tinned copper bus bars, that are partly detached from the PCB. Any guesses on the motivation behind this design change?🤔Image

Conclusion
Antminer S21 XP meets advertised efficiency of 13.5J/T in real world performance. Bitmain is sticking with its wider body design, 140mm cooling fans and the addition of LED display is a nice touch.
Competitive Landscape
With S21 XP @BITMAINtech has improved mining efficiency by a massive 37% YoY (compared with S19 XP). This further extends its leadership position in the industry. The bar is now set higher for competitors like Bitdeer, Block, Auradine & MicroBT.
Availability
This review unit was a part of a small early release batch from Bitmain. Volume release is expected in 1st week of October.

Antminer S21 Pro 234T - First Impressions

Announced in March 2024, Antminer S21 Pro was released last week. We just got our first unit so let's take a look the device. 🔍👀Image
Packaging📦
Antminer S21 was nearly identical in size to most S19 series miners.

The S21 Pro however is much larger. Notice the package size difference in the between the two.Image
Inside the Box
Previous antminers were packaged with 2 pieces of packaging foam with a gap in the middle. S21 Pro has much larger and thicker pieces of foam that fully enclose the miner from top to bottom. This provides additional cushioning, but makes it harder to unbox the device.Image
