Death-penalty opponents are holding a vigil tonight outside Columbia’s Broad River Correctional Institution, where convicted murderer Freddie Owens is scheduled to be put to death at 6, in SC’s first execution since 2011.
Gov. Henry McMaster says in this letter he will NOT grant clemency to convicted murderer Freddie Owens and reduce his death sentence to life in prison without parole. Owens’ execution will move forward as scheduled tonight.
