In 2017, Marcellus Williams was granted a Stay & a new Board Inquiry by Missouri Gov Greitens (R).
DNA testing proved his innocence & the prosecutor filed to vacate.
Then AG Bailey & Gov Parson were voted into office.

In June of 2024, AG Bailey refused to allow the release an innocent woman.
He was trying to keep her in prison by looking for other crimes she may have committed before she went to prison - 43 years ago.
A judge had to threaten to jail AG Bailey before he relented.

In July of 2024 AG Bailey refused to release another innocent man. He directed the prison to ignore the Court ordering his release bc of his innocence - twice.
A judge admonished him, reminding him he had no authority to disregard the Court. Again.

In all of these cases, their innocence was proven & a prosecutor stepped in to vacate their convictions.
This is thanks to a new law passed in 2021, giving prosecutors this power when there’s overwhelming evidence of innocence.
AG Bailey objects & fights it every time.

That brings us back to Marcellus.
Bailey objected this time too. Despite DNA evidence, a Gov’s Stay & an ongoing Board Inquiry.
So Gov Parson simply dissolved the Inquiry, w/o allowing a decision.
He then reversed the Stay.
— again, despite clear evidence of innocence.

Marcellus William died this evening at the hands of the State & they went out of their way to do it.
