Interop has made zero progress apart from making tokens transferable. Users still bridge tokens across chains to perform actions. Devs still waste engineering hours on bootstrapping DeFi primitives for their rollups. dApps like @pendle_fi operate five protocols across five chains.

And this is a death knell for apps building on-chain.

Point to point based solutions (e.g. @LayerZero_Core) charges rollups for each new connection to other chains, and each new connection takes months of engineering. This is manageable for 5-10 rollups, but today weโre adding 100+ rollups per year. This doesnโt scale bro.
Hub and Spoke protocols ( @axelar) are marginally better but have throughput and latency issues.

Nearly all interop providers rely on third parties/trusted setups/use multi-sigs (1:1 multi-sigs in many cases) for security.
P2P protocols canโt opt for better verification schemes other than multi-sigs โ because the cost then increases 10,000X
Hub and spoke protocols either rely on native tokens for economic security or external validator sets / DONs for verification, which are not as secure as leveraging Ethereum for security.
Interop is the bottleneck of today โ and tomorrow. We need to do better.
