1/ In December 2023, Kenyan President William Ruto met Indian PM Narendra Modi in New Delhi. But there was a "surprise visitor": Gautam Adani. What unfolded next has sparked massive controversy. Image
2/ Just months later, the Adani Group submitted a $1.85 billion proposal to upgrade Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta Intl. Airport (JKIA), seeking a 30-year lease and an equity stake. But the conditions raised concerns: a $40M concession fee, tax breaks, and restrictions on new airports in Nairobi.
3/ Public backlash erupted as workers at JKIA went on strike in September 2024, protesting potential job losses and the deal's secrecy. Civil-society groups quickly took action, filing lawsuits challenging the government's negotiations with Adani.
4/ In a dramatic turn, the Kenyan Supreme Court temporarily suspended all discussions over the Adani proposal, after considering concerns over the lack of transparency and potential fiscal risks. The situation has left many questioning the motives behind this deal.
5/ As investigations unfold, the Adani Group insists on the merits of their proposal, claiming it offers advantages beyond just financial gain. Meanwhile, a wave of protests continues, fueled by the hashtag #OccupyJKIA
6/ The next court hearing is set for October 8, 2024. Will this deal proceed, or will the outcry from workers and civil groups change the course of Kenya’s aviation future? Read more here: adaniwatch.org/furore_over_ad…

1/The Waqf (Amendment) Bill was introduced in Lok Sabha and referred to a joint Parliamentary standing committee today.

Labeled 'divisive', 'anti-Muslim', & 'unconstitutional,' the Bill proposes changes to the 1995 Waqf Act, including the inclusion of Muslim women on Waqf boards and mandatory land verification.

2/ Let's rewind to September 2022, when a lesser-known but explosive legal controversy involving Mukesh Ambani’s iconic Antilia residence linked India’s then top law officer, AG KK Venugopal, to a shocking protest before the Supreme Court. Image
3/ The crux of the matter? Allegations of “interference” in a legal dispute over the sale of Waqf land, the very land on which Antilia stands tall today. This connection has been largely ignored by mainstream media. We connected the dots in our exclusive analysis.

1/  After exit polls predicted a landslide win for @narendramodi's party on 1 June, India's stock markets soared. But when the official results revealed that the number of @BJP4India MPs was 33 below the half-way mark of 272 in the #LokSabha and that Modi would head a coalition government for the first time, share prices crashed. The notional lost value: a staggering $360 billion or a tenth of India’s GDP.Image
2/ On June 4, @AdaniOnline shares collapsed amid a general market meltdown as Modi's BJP secured a third term with the help of the TDP (@JaiTDP) and the JD (U) (@Jduonline). The opposition has called for an investigation into alleged stock manipulation.
3/ The frenzy began on May 31 with a massive increase in trading on the National Stock Exchange, led by non-resident Indian investors, and foreign institutional investors (FIIs). This surge happened just a day before the final election phase and exit poll announcements.

1/ More than a decade ago, India's "Coalgate" scandal shook the nation, revealing the unfair allocation of coal blocks to private companies by the UPA government. The CAG estimated a notional loss of Rs. 1.86 lakh crore to the exchequer.
2/ This scandal led to the downfall of the Manmohan Singh government and paved the way for Narendra Modi's rise in 2014. At the same time, another coal scam was brewing, this time targeting the public.
3/ The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) unearthed over-invoicing of coal imports, meaning companies were overstating the value of coal imports, leading to inflated electricity bills for consumers.

1/ @AdaniOnline recently transferred a power contract from the struggling Pench coal-power project to their operational and growing Mahan plant. This proved beneficial for Adani, as the higher tariff rate for Pench was retained for Mahan, despite Mahan's lower production costs. Image
2/ Pench faced years of community opposition and delays. Adani has now orchestrated a transfer of the Power Supply Agreement (PSA) to Mahan.

The manner of transfer and the high tariff approval by the state's electricity regulatory authority is questionable. Image
3/ Notably, Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries is set to acquire a 26% stake in the Mahan project.

1/ The Adani family's recent infusion of funds into @AdaniOnline companies through warrants sparks concerns about governance and market manipulation. A thread.
2/ @AdaniGreen recently announced a massive infusion of funds by the Adani family, but they only paid a fraction of the promised amount upfront, using warrants instead of ordinary shares.
@AdaniGreen 3/ Warrants allow purchasers to buy a part of shares upfront and pay the rest later. This raises concerns about whether the family will fulfill their promise to fully invest and the potential to manipulate stock prices.
