Lebanon’s Foreign Minister makes a jaw-dropping claim in this @CNN interview with @amanpour : Hezbollah’s leader Hasan Nasrallah allegedly agreed to a 21 day (Hez-Is) ceasefire brokered by the US & France the day before he was killed by Israel - and Netanyahu knew. 1/
2/ The full interview on CNN’s @amanpour is here - so you can see the claim in context | YouTube here:
@pigreen1 @BBCPolitics @bbclaurak @vicderbyshire @SophyRidgeSky Gosh. After I tweeted, 36 mins ago, CNN & Christiane have just posted it as news clip. Maybe just coincidence..
@amanpour 3/ Clearly, this is a *claim* made by the Lebanese Minister. It’ll be interesting to see if it can be independently verified.

🧵Marieha Hussain has been found NOT GUILTY of a racially aggravated public order offence for carrying the sign below implying Sunak & Braverman are *coconuts. IMO there should be a review of the CPS decision to prosecute. Early on, the investigation would have shown the weak 1/
evidence, the context of non-violence, community satire & in-community pejoratives. While some asians view the slur as offensive - there is no weight of opinion one way or another as to the LEVEL of offence 2/
- or, whether it is racist when used by one brown person against another. The State’s heavy handed approach to the nuanced matter of terminology within ethnic minority groups has been deeply troubling. I hope significantly more attention is paid to who made the 3/
🧵💚On the 14th of June 2017 I was a correspondent on the Today programme at BBC Radio Four. A colleague called in the early hours and asked me to rush to Grenfell Tower. I will never forget the scale, trauma, bravery, generosity, confusion, kindness, fear, horror, 1/
& desperation of residents, neighbours, volunteers & emergency workers. I remember being near the base of the tower; the grey flakes of God-knows-what showering down on us. Rancid smoke filled the air. People pleaded with me to get masks - I didn’t have any. They pleaded … 2/
for information - I had v little; it was chaos. Reporting, for weeks, in the aftermath meant seeing the unbearable pain of the survivors and bereaved. Their dignity was unfaltering, I’ll never forget it.
🧵We, British Indians, rarely get explicit mention in the discourse around racism. It’s because, in part, we’re perceived as ‘successful’ when compared to other PoC minorities.
That doesn’t mean we aren’t discriminated against; it means, we’re expected to put up & shut up
What contributes to this perception is that those in power/influence (Sunak, Patel etc) are projected in the media as the ‘norm’ in our communities - not the outliers that they are. For example, the majority or British Indians are not privately educated, multimillionaires etc
In my experience, most British Indians of my generation do not seek to distance ourselves from other minority communities - including other S & E. Asians, M. East, Black British heritage, Jewish people.
Consultants repeatedly tried force Countess of Chester Hospital management to investigate Nurse Lucy Letby and her link to the possible murder of babies.
The doctors were ignored
Letby was eventually moved to a clerical role. It took another year before police were involved
Paediatricians realised that Lucy Letby was on duty every time there was an “unexpected catastrophic event” that led to the deaths. Letby took out a grievance against the doctors. She won, and the consultants were forced to make a written apology to the murderer. 2/
Left with no choice, the consultations themselves felt forced to go to the police themselves and report Lucy Letby At one point, they were threatened with disciplinary action, that was never taken. The BBC now reporting that that it was 13, not 7 babies that died. 3/
NEW: Leading lawyers call on Sir Labour’s Keir Starmer - ex DPP - to condemn the smear campaign carried out by the Conservative Party against leading Immigration lawyer @JacquiMckenzie6 .
CCHQ does not deny it sent an inaccurate ‘dossier’ about her to 4 national newspapers 1/
In an unprecedented statement, @TheLawSociety & @thebarcouncil say they are gravely concerned about target attacks on @JacquiMckenzie6 by CCHQ saying smear campaigns“ potentially risk the safety of lawyers, will ultimately undermine confidence in our entire justice system” 2/
@TheLawSociety @thebarcouncil @JacquiMckenzie6 Leading lawyer @JacquiMckenzie6 rep Windrush families & 1 asylum seeker on a Rwanda flight. She says, the Labour Party invited her to sit on a panel examining racial inequalities (chaired by Doreen Lawrence) making her a CCHQ target. Keir Starmer has yet to condemn the attacks 3/
Liz Truss’s collapsing circus of a government is behaving this way because they are an over-privileged, self-serving echo chamber who are profoundly disconnected from real people who are literally paying for the failure of “libertarian Jihad” against Britain and its people
There are some very decent MPs within the Conservative ranks but blood letting over Brexit spilt like acid through the Party and they were sidelined or seen off altogether. The bloody minded arrogance of a tiny elite at the top of the 2/
Tories stretching back to Cameron (possibly beyond) prioritised internal Party machinations over the public good. Compassionate Conservatism is a faded memory - eradicated by the political wing of 55 Tufton St. Reviving it will involve the Tory Party regaining soul & purpose 3/
