The twin have different priorities in global geopolitical competition:
US priorities are
1. To ensure China does not leapfrog into fourth industrial revolution. If this happens it will become richer than US & Washington believes China will replace it as the global hegemon
2. To constraint, if not contain, PLA in west Pacific so that it does not develop force projection capabilities across two Oceans - Pacific & Indian Oceans
China's priority is
China Dream- rejuvenation of Chinese people by modernisation of China & by building a global community of shared future.
It wants first user advantage in green industries & AI supported industrialization of Global South nations.
Modernisation of PLA is for credible deterrence, protection of SLOCs & it's people, interests & infrastructure in BRI nations.
Reunification of Taiwan by force in not a priority unless Taiwan with US support intends to declare Independence.
Reunification of South Tibet by force can become an issue if India crosses China's red lines.
In sum: US seeks dominance in Indo Pacific while China desires deference or respect & sensitivity towards it's core & major concerns!
