5/20 The family used SNAP benefits to put food on the table. Their kids attended government-funded pre-K and after-school programs, which allowed Lily to work full-time while knowing her children were cared for.

6/20 Though they faced challenges, they were scraping by. David’s hope for stable work at the EV plant and Lily’s overtime pay were the pillars holding their family together. They believed that better days were ahead, despite their struggles.

7/20 But once Project 2025 was implemented, everything changed. ACA subsidies were eliminated, leaving David & Lily unable to afford healthcare. Their chronic conditions quickly worsened. David’s heart problems became life-threatening without treatment.

8/20 Project 2025 also dismantled all federal climate programs, which meant that both the electric vehicle plant David had hoped to work at & the solar company where Lily worked were shut down. Both lost their jobs overnight.

13/20 With no options for school, David & Lily considered sending their older kids to work at a local meat packing plant to help the family survive. It wasn’t what they wanted for their children, but they saw no other way.

14/20 Government-funded after-school programs were also cut, leaving Lily with no childcare options. She had to stay home to care for the kids, further crushing any hope of finding new work. Their financial situation worsened rapidly.

15/20 As the pressure mounted, David fell into deep depression and started drinking heavily again. He felt like a failure, unable to protect his family. His health declined even further, and his drinking put a strain on the family.
