New Research Links COVID-19 to Rising Cases of Advanced Breast Cancer in Women Image
Image
According to an important Australian study, the pandemic continues to affect every aspect of our healthcare system. The latest data reveals a concerning rise in advanced breast cancer diagnoses among women.
This trend is not new; recent research shows that several cancers, particularly in young Australians, are becoming more common.

Experts clarify that the increase in cancer diagnoses does not necessarily indicate a decline in overall health.
Instead, it reflects factors such as improved screening methods and earlier detection. With the frequency and availability of screenings significantly influencing when and how patients are diagnosed, it’s clear that the disruption caused by COVID-19 has impacted these numbers.
Researchers have linked a rise in advanced breast cancer diagnoses after COVID-19 to the widespread suspension of screening resources by comparing data from pre-pandemic, pandemic, and post-pandemic groups.
The study, published in the ANZ Journal of Surgery by the Royal Australian College of Surgeons, reports a significant rise in symptomatic breast cancer, with a 14.7 percent increase, and a 2.5 percent rise in advanced breast cancer (stages 3 and 4) from 2019 to 2022.
A closer examination of specific tumors revealed notable increases in node positivity for three aggressive types: high Ki-67 (5.4 percent), Grade 3 (14.8 percent), and Estrogen Receptor-negative tumors (33.4 percent).

Findings indicate a significant association between acute COVID-19 rates and increased car crashes, with an odds ratio (OR) of 1.5 (95% CI: 1.23-1.26). The analysis also found no protective effect of vaccination against increased crash risks, challenging previous assumptions.

Global Flu Pandemic Could Claim 33 Million Lives in Just Six Months, Warns Research Institute Image
The H5N1 virus is raising alarms as it spreads among dairy cows, potentially infecting other species like pigs. Jürgen Richt, a professor at Kansas State University, warns that this could lead to new, dangerous strains of the virus.
"If the virus infects a person who is also infected with a human flu strain, the resulting reassorted virus could adapt to humans—something I don’t even want to imagine," Richt states. The implications could far exceed those of COVID-19.
