Looks like a random AI slop site based in Illinois, aided by social media, has coaxed hundreds of people on to the main street of Dublin for a Halloween parade that was never happening.
This website posted yesterday about Halloween parade supposedly taking place on O'Connell St at 7pm this eve, gave it a search-friendly title (it landed pretty high up if you Googled 'Dublin Halloween') and explained where to go to get good spots and how to take part.
If you weren't to know better and were looking for something to do, you can imagine why it might be believable (esp in a city renowned for seasonal parades). On the other hand, there's this crap...
Anyway, it seems people picked up on it on TikTok and elsewhere and began promoting it as if the parade was a legit thing, and not the imagining of some random person looking for clicks for ad revenue. These were both posted on TikTok yesterday.
Small correction/addition to the above - the website actually appears to be based in Pakistan (despite stating its location is Illinois). Its Facebook page lists an address in Pakistan and Meta says that's where the page's admins are based...
And yes, the FB page is also full of slop

🧵Local election counts are coming in thick and fast,so here is a thread on how far-right and anti-immigrant candidates are performing around the country.
(This comes with a big caveat a it's a live situation and there will likely be developments by the time you read this...)
By my count there are around 170 candiates standing for far-right parties (The Irish Freedom Party, the National Party, Ireland First, The Irish People) or as independents (incl those on anti-immigrant platforms).
They're standing in 31 LEAs (Limerick and Laois the exceptions).
Parties are generally performing poorly, with some notable exceptions:
- Glen Moore (IFP) looks like being elected for SDCC in Palmerstown
- Lester Gordon (TIP) is in with a shout in Ballyjamesduff in Cavan
- Ross Lahive (ITP) is in a race for a seat in Cork NW
1/ The woman who appeared at this evening's NPHET briefing and aggressively questioned @CMOIreland over the death of Sally Maaz identified herself as Jemima Burke from Western News.
...but there is no outlet called Western News.
2/ There is a woman called Jemima Burke though, who may be related to the family who were banned for life from all student societies at NUI Galway.
