People want to know how Iowa could swing towards Harris, when the state has been solidly red for so long and let me tell you, as someone who lives here & writes about this state. It’s the abortion ban. Women are furious.
60 percent of Iowans support abortion in all or most circumstances. Many Iowans remember a time before Roe. They remember life without choice and bodily autonomy. Kim Reynolds and the Iowa republicans passed a near total abortion ban. And people are mad.
I don’t make predictions. But last two weeks, talking to organizers and politicians who have been on the ground and door knocking were full of hope, which is no small feat. I guess we will see.
I’ve been writing and working as a journalist out of Iowa for almost 20 years lyz.substack.com
Once again, predictions are a fools errand but even if Harris doesn’t take Iowa this is a huge hit to Iowas R status
Thanksgiving is gonna be amazing. Go home for this one this year

My kid can't just play on a baseball team. Now there is an app. And everyday that app buzzes with messages from moms about how one kid took another kids hat and how we all need to RSVP to practices and I want to die.
Oh did Hunter steal Brysons hat? I DON'T CARE
And guess who is rarely on the app????? The dads. It's a mom reminding moms to RSVP so the dad coach can figure out the line up. American parents do you not have hobbies?
In my daughter's ongoing protest against her school dress code she put up a sign on her locker that read "teach boys to focus, not girls to cover up" and one of the teachers took down the sign and took the magnets that she used to hang the sign.
And she's incensed about the censorship but mostly the theft of the magnets.
But also like, lol, congratulations you just radicalized at least 4 12yo girls.
She's also been peacefully protesting by wearing clothes that are in the gray area of the dress code and no one has said a word to her about it and she's like "They're either hypocrites or ignoring me."
I'll never not be floored by me writing about something and then men suggesting what I should do next. I'm 40 years old, guys. I'm aware of the WBNBA.
This has happened a lot lately with sports, politics, and action movies and I'm just sitting here wondering is this how you all are to everyone in your lives.
Also don't assume someone's ignorance. You can say "I enjoyed this movie or book or show" because odds are if I'm writing about a topic I've read it/seen it/have deeply researched whatever you are about to suggest
