THREAD🔻 There’s no reason to give democrats and liberals an inch on the question of abortion and Roe v Wade. They played a vital role in the overturning of Roe for years and years before Dobbs happened. We gain nothing from playing into their wedge issue kayfabe.
For starters, Roe itself was a toothless compromise position pushed by rich, white liberals in the women’s liberation movement. The decision was grounded in the right to privacy and the consumerist right to “choose”, it never had anything to do with equality or bodily autonomy.
Three years after the Roe decision, Congress enacted the Hyde Amendment banning federal funding to allow poor women to get abortions. Roe, and the mainstream reproductive justice movement that produced it, has long left colonized & destitute women in the dirt
But the democrats & establishment liberals couldn’t even protect something as weak as Roe. Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Obama and Biden all had the opportunity to codify Roe and they refused. Why? Because they know that abortion is an effective battering ram for party discipline.
RBG refused to retire under a democratic administration and this allowed Trump to stack the court with anti-abortionist fascists. More than anything, Roe v Wade and its ultimate demise is a perfect example of the two camps of the ruling class working in harmony with one another.
There is hardly a better example of both camps collaborating to protect the interests of their class at the expense of the most destitute women..and now their loyal lap dogs, white imperialist feminists, are getting in line to fulfill their role as the dutiful daughters of empire
