Thread on what to expect when first NV numbers pop up tonight -- this is important because of what I think will happen:
Clark County will NOT tabulate tens of thousands of mail ballots dropped off today until tomorrow. So I expect Trump to be ahead tonight. But by how much?

Remember in 2022, Adam Laxalt was ahead of Catherine Cortez Masto in the Senate race on Election Night, but then the mail counted afterwards put her over the top for a second Senate term. 62K mail ballots were dropped off on Election Day in '22. Unclear how many today yet.

I wouldn't be surprised if Trump -- and perhaps other Republicans -- try to declare victory tonight even though they know this. And Trump may well win the state if the margin is too big before the mail is counted. But be cautious what you say is over because #mailmatters.

It's been stuck in my craw for a few days, so I want to talk about this notion that CNN's moderators in some way are "anti-Trump," which caused @kasie to cut off a Trump spox and set off the right-wing outrage machine. This is important, so let's be clear on a few things:

@jaketapper and @DanaBashCNN are seasoned pros and great choices to moderate this debate.

"Anti-Trump" is used by Trump supporters to describe journalists who have called out Trump's serial lying. That doesn't mean they are against Trump; it means they are doing their jobs.

Covering politics in this fraught era is not easy, and it's especially difficult when the chosen technique is to slime people for political advantage. Tapper and Bash are tough -- on both sides. But there is no moral equivalency between what Trump does and Biden's age, etc.

This is a lie.

Trump repeatedly put Yucca in his budget! He suddenly came out against it as an election year epiphany! And: "That area is thriving." WHAT?

I know this could end up being a mistake, but I feel compelled to weigh in on the McDaniel/NBC kerfuffle:
1. Full disclosure: I am an MSNBC contributor and have a lot of fondness for a lot of people over there.
2. Yes, the network has some contributors I wouldn't have hired..

...and that provides easy fodder for Republicans and I don't really blame them for mocking the pearl-clutching on the Left. I wish MSNBC had more thoughtful conservatives. But. But, and I can't stress this enough, this hire is different, and I'll tell you why:

3. No one -- including McDaniel -- who lied about 2020 and enabled Trump's attempted coup should be welcomed back into polite society, unless they sincerely and profusely apologize. Period. The damage has been too pervasive, too insidious. This should be a litmus test.

Kicking off the Trump rally in vegas: One of the worst conspiracy theorists: Wayne Allyn Root, who once said Barack Obama was a foreign exchange student and said the vegas mass shooting was done by ISIS.

Immediately calls 2020 election "rigged."

WAR, what is he good for?
This is the guy speaking first at the Trump rally who just said "they rigged and stole the election from Donald J. Trump." He was ousted from the Las Vegas Review-Journal as a featured columnist after hawking phony COVID cures. Image
Now state GOP Chair and indicted fake elector @McDonaldNV is up there. Like Root, he is screaming into the mic for some reason before introducing Trump.

This an only-in-Nevada story:
Cryptocreep conspiracy theorist and election denier tries to overturn unanimously passed new law to protect election workers and uses unhinged Republican national committeewoman, who once said Black AG should be "hanging from a crane," to file it.
News of this lawsuit first appeared on a GOP bulletin board/dark money site masquerading as a real news site and one that has posted stuff favoring the cryptocreep conspiracist. For some reason, this site's "story" did not point out that he was one of the plaintiffs.

Here's our great investigative piece, in partnership with two other great news outlets, on the guy behind this lawsuit who also claimed his pal Joey Gilbert won the GOP gov primary he lost in a landslide. He has harassed electeds and staffers.

I've seen a lot of smart people commenting on whether CNN should let Trump be on tonight, and I see where many of the dissenters are coming from, based on history. But they're wrong. I interviewed people live for many years, and I know you have been dying for my opinion. So:
1/
Don't talk to me about "normalizing" Trump or "giving him a platform." He is the GOP frontrunner for president. Of course CNN should put him on. Yes, there are dangers of live TV -- he will try to filibuster -- but there are also benefits -- he can't complain he was edited.
2/
The key here -- and I know this is risible to many -- is that as a news org, you have to have faith in your anchor to be prepared, to know facts better than Trump and -- this is critical -- interrupt him when necessary -- firmly, calmly. Remind the audience when he is lying.
