As we're watching the results come in, I've been reflecting on the contempt I feel for UK MSM. And it is contempt. Partly, of course, that's just because its worldview (globalist, woke) is antithetical to my own. But that's not all of it, or even most ..1/
... Watching the ghastly Campbell, Stewart, Maitless et too many al. scroll past in my X feed, squawking in video clips you couldn't pay me to watch, I recognise the emotion I feel as atavistic. These people are my class's enemy, and since 2016 they've not attempted to hide it.2/
"My class" is the lower middle-class, the people at whom Jonathan Miller and Virginia Woolf loved to sneer. The people who live in suburbs & mind their own business & don't ruin bus journeys for others, who don't 'go sick' or have 'mental elf' & who know men are not women...3/
(The people whose stomachs turn in horror at the filth of anti-Semitism washing over our streets, who don't know how to march and wouldn't dream of attending a protest, but who can't begin to understand why the commentariat aren't making loud noises about it all the time...4/)
There is almost no-one in MSM Commentariat who speaks for us, and so we're left with these over-privileged entitled midwit nonentities in their endless onanistic circle, spitting their hatred of the values we cherish *and never punished for being wrong*. 5/
I could almost put up with that were the commentators ever to pause for a minute & wonder if they might be mistaken. But they don't- you can see momentary panic in their eyes when results flash up, but the bile never stops. Their views are impregnable, a fearful place to be. 6/
There's no calumny they wouldn't repeat about politicians they loathe, not because of the politician but because they can't bear the thought of sharing power with people whose views differ from their own. That's why the culture war matters. To take back some control. /end
